Never heard of this guy or LP .....

I must admit that her playing style never appealed that much to me - I prefer a clearer rhythmic phrasing - but I have the greatest respect for her as an authority on the music and her teaching activities, especially as she never imposed her style on her students. There is a passage in the "Ricercar" documentary that beautifully illustrates that. R.I.P. - she was the grand dame among French harpsichordists.

Same box, same disc here today. This is a very nice surprise, the best Patton I have heard so far. I remember being under whelmed by Grant Green's "Am I Blue" with Patton, which led me to ignore the Select when it came out. Glad my curiosity won.

Disc 1 while I started reading the bio - Dexter was so unique in his tone and phrasing!

Never saw that one - I hope it sounds better than the rather cold and artificial B & O recording.

Jon Hendricks ‎– Fast Livin' Blues

One of the most enjoyable of all the Xmas label compilations I have.

Of course I know all that, but Tjader's first period for Fantasy has some really bad examples of releases haphazardly thrown together from vault material, with incorrect personnel credits and recording dates (if they were mentioned at all). Some LPs were programmed with great care and made the albums pieces of art in themselves, others were the extreme opposite. Knowing all of Tjader's music I can say that most of it would benefit a lot from a chronological presentation with completed sessions - being well aware that session order is impossible to reconstruct as Fantasy rather soon stopped assigning master numbers and were very casual about keeping files. Duncan S. Reid and yours truly found out many details that the label obviously does not about and never cared to research properly. It all depends, but in the case of Tjader I had to make a point. Only few of these albums deserve that term. I can name them, if you want.

Geez - that shop has hundreds of covers from the Concord/Fantasy label group. Wish I had less walls covered up by shelves ... ;-) But the Monk/Rollins is a standout! They are located in Southern Germany, btw - watch out for shipping costs.

That's the way I approach their releases. I've never heard one that sounded better than other reissues. Copied from other CDs and worked over a bit, that's all it seems to be. In the case of the Tjader box, the compilation is a bit odd, as some of the original releases already had tracks from different session thrown together.
