2014 vintage - Arneis is an old grape variety from Piemont - I live in the Riesling area but like this grape better.

Curiously, there are some amazon sellers listing at higher prices than the Mosaic box - it's a crazy world.

Southern Germany: Südwestrundfunk, which Joachim Ernst Berendt made big, and Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian) - especially the latter played a lot more jazz than the average radio. No wonder you got that impression. The 1980s were the best time span for jazz in Germany, Travelling costs were not as high as today, so you had more people touring than later. I don't know how much jazz was in the air in the USA in the 1960s and 70s, but over here it was just a few hours during the week, so missing them always hurt, and listening always was full of surprises and had a magical quality that the ubiquitous availablity of internet files does not have - at least for me. I do listen to foreign stations on the internet radio offered by our TV server, but the musical level is not as high as during the years when real people were selecting the records in realtime. The times they are a-changin', I suppose. Even local classical programs sound to me like they have a few hundred albums on hard discs they keep repeating and rarely add something new.

Sound is very good, like the OJC CDs. Having some of the sessions spread over two LPs presented in direct sequence is an advantage, IMO.

Yes it is - 100% Negroamaro and very tasty, 2014 vintage - but this one is already sold out. I still have four bottles in the basement, in case you stop by ... I prefer Negroamaro or a Primitivo with just the right amount of remaining sweetness over Chianti, most of which are too dry for my taste.

I'd buy a Mercer Records set. Problem could be that some items released on 78's are very rare, and others were reissued on other labels, e.g. Prestige, Riverside, Storyville. Plenty of prime Ellingtonia, for sure. Yeah, but programming a CD track sequence seems to feel like sacrilege to some CD buyers. Album sequence as part of the art.

The author is not discographically inclined - covers sessions acquired by Prestige many years after being recorded, like the Chaloff/Pettiford - there are many board members here that are more knowledgeable. As a document of his enthusiasm it is okay, though.

While we're at it - what was the nomination procedure? I can start a new thread as soon as I'm back home on Monday.
