Branches of the majors on different continents are entirely independent in their release schedules - Universal Europe or EMI Europe often have later release dates. They're not smart in doing so, as they could imagine the diehard fans will not wait and get them from online retailers abroad and lessen their sales numbers, which are small enough with items like these.

I'm not in any way a violent man, but I'd like to smack that sillyass motherfucker upside his head more than just a few times. Luttuce face it, he's asking for it! The way he looks, he knows his fate: being sliced and served with oil and vinegar!

I think Jan Hammer is one of the greatest synthesizer players because with him it sounds like a physical instrument, not a plastic keyboard with electronic devices attached. -
Was there a Chronological Classics CD devoted to Leo Parker? They're the only ones who could handle that. Leo Parker sessions "suffer" from the fact that much was reissued under the name of (now) better known co-leaders or sidemen (e.g. Dexter Gordon).

I most certainly will not argue about that!

Before: After:

Denon followed a strange reissue policy after acquring Savoy: 1 - a series of straight LP replica reissues (often ignoring Porter's discographical research, no bonus tracks, often wrong credits) 2- some CD reissues of the SJL single or double LPs. Besides that Vogue did some CD reissues of SJL issues - I guess the Maggie is one of those.

There also was a single LP SJL 1100 series, which I might add later. The V.A. compilations are more valuable than one might think, as they collected many complete sessions by artist whose material would not fill an entire album. The only way to comprehend this would be Bob Porter's Savoy discography. The CDs Keepnews compiled in the 1990s are always leaving off some tracks!!! Same goes for the series I listed - often additional tracks turned up after the LPs were released and were added to one of the compilations. Discographically and reissue-wise, Savoy is the greatest mess of them all .....

Tenor Conclave: A Tribute To Hank Mobley Grand Central If I'm not mistaken, it's Coltrane on the cover, and the band is named after one of Trane's tunes .... well, it's their 2nd album, the first was a Trane Tribute, Ravi's in the band - but the pic still the wrong one!

Good to see that he is back in good shape so he could attend the ceremony!

was Lifetime's "Emergency!" an influence in prog/met

That's what I think. Guitarists, of course. But the ryhthmic concept - nobody copied it! -
Mindless mirroring of images for covers is more common than one might like to believe!

Mike, I think there were a lot of fusion and prog rock bands that were influenced by Mahavishnu. Guy Please go ahead and drop some names - I'll gladly stand corrected. -
.... but reading the small print one finds a release date of September, 2007 !!!

amazon.de offers them for € 9.99 per disc.

Yes, those swing Vanguards sound great! Wish they had been reissued on CD in a less haphazard fashion.

?!?!?!?!? There was a Fred Katz playing cello in Hamilton's group, and Collette's successors were Paul Horn and Eric Dolphy, then Charles Lloyd ....... Dick Katz was a New York pianist. (You mixed 'em up, I guess ...)

Jim Anderson reported in his thread here that none of the CD issues of the Pink Panther album do it justice, but that it was one of Tommy LiPuma's greatest jobs.

Dug out this nice Gerry Wiggins Contemporary LP yesterday - another excellent Roy DuNann effort:

was Lifetime's "Emergency!" an influence in prog/met

Re: Emergency - Yes I think it was influential, but more on a general level, encouraging jazz musicians to go the rock route if they felt that way. The players involved were so unique it was impossible to copy the sound. As far as the playing concept is concerned, Weather Report was copied the most, I think. Mahavishnu was rhythmically too intricate (at least for most people here - the only other guy fond of these rhythms on the local scene is still one of my best friends). Tony as a drummer was very influential - after "Believe It" his licks popped up on plenty jazzrock albums I heard in the discos here playing such things. -

Hard to say when it exactly happened. Seems he still worked on the sound after turning to that bigger kit - albums like the Stanley Clarke debut LP on Nemperor and his last for Polydor "The Old Bum's Rush" are evidence of that. "Ego" clearly still has the smaller kit in use. "Believe it" has the new one at full throttle. -
So you won't bid ..... no use asking any wife in such a case!

... and this ebay item will stay unsold and unheard, it seems.
