  1. Okay, paypal-ed $ 10,00 - e-mail will follow.
  2. You can check http://www.freshsoundrecords.com for availability - AFAIR not all titles are in print at the moment.
  3. Awesome! I wish I had a conga drum one of my idols has played!
  4. I'll take one - always like Schildkraut. How much is the fare to the old world for the disc?
  5. So how many of them do you own by now, Al? (Talking about obsessions ....)
  6. Actually there were four Tjader albums recorded for Skye, but the other live CD was only released by DCC. They are on the lighter side but very well done and recorded, the live ones are jazzier, of course. The Bacharach CD has some nice duo work with Gary McFarland that is so well done you cannot tell them apart!
  7. Here's an even better view:
  8. The tuned metal plates (some special aluminum alloy) have resonating tubes below them of varying lenghth (that's what you see looking like organ pipes). These are permanently closed at the bottom; on the top they have these revolving lids. The vibrato effect comes from the opening and closing of the resonators - the speed can be adjusted. In the center of the pic you can see one of those lids.
  9. It's all of that, and the phrasing! How you hit the bars - that's very personal, and of course affected by the choice of mallets.
  10. And: Shearing had a much more organic way of integrating his Classical training than most others.
  11. Fan? Dunno ...... but I like his music most of the time. I'd opt for a Mosaic of his complete MGM sides any time - this material is much better than one would think, and the sidemen were excellent. Love the Capitol live set Brownie mentioned.
  12. The you should also like: (only 1 or two Latin tracks) and: if you haven't already checked them out - much in the same style, studio but just as lively.
  13. Forgot about that one - you're right!
  14. Part of the problem I described two posts above was that my mother had birds in cages and stored their food in the same chamber as her own food supplies. She had a large birdcage from floor to ceiling in the lobby. The food chamber was only 10 feet away, easy for the mice to find, and it was just as easy for them to climb the wooden shelves to get everywhere in there ..... The point is, when we recently renovated the flat, my friend opened the old housing for the electrical fuses which was on the wall in that food chamber. He removed half a dozen mummies of mice who had run up the wall to hide when my mother switched on the light in the chamber, crept in it between the fuses and electrocuted themselves when they closed a circuit. And we always wondered about the funny smell in there and why the fuses blew all the time .....
  15. My advice seemingly helped, as it stopped the thread?!?!
  16. My niece is a trained apiarist. This has been going on for many years. It seems that biologically-organically oriented apiarists have a little less trouble with it, so there's hope.
  17. Jimmy Smith is not my top favourite organist, but I dig Donald Bailey - he's a very special drummer. So thanks, Kyo, for getting to Cuscuna with this!
  18. Yes I think it is closed down - don't know about his ownership; maybe there is some info on his forum? About his activities: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/discography/index.shtml
  19. There was a Kevin Hays Trio on Blue Note with Jack. There is an unreleased David Kikoski trio session for Epicure with him. Considering he was playing with Bill Evans, gigs regularly with Jarrett, and has plenty of other projects running, I find that number of trio recordings fully satisfying.
  20. I have an Italian Lotus/Passport LP with Getz, Chick Corea, Vitous, and Tony Williams, tracks are: Sweet Rain Wee Lush Life Night Time Street La Fiesta
  21. So it's not just the individual post count?
  22. Oh - I overlooked that option when ordering my Tjader DCCs a while ago. Paid almost as much for shipping as for the discs! You're right - these are all remastered by Steve Hoffman and sound great.
  23. Just my thoughts!
