The Berben disc was runed by recording in too large a room with the microphones placed too far from the instrument, which is always bad for the harpsichord sound, especially when the music is of a structure and density as Wilhelm Freidemann Bach's. And it depicts not the composer but his pupil in Halle, Johnann Christian Bach (1743-1814, not his half-brother but from the Thurigina Bach family branch).
I bought the CD/DVD package as soon as it was issued. Well made documentary. MacFarland was a amazing talent and never cared about categories. I wish there was an expanded reissue of the Profiles album, but I"m afraid those tapes are lost.
I, too, couldn't find any CD issue of that album, only Spanish label compilations with similar content. The cover depicted on amazon clearly shows the LP issue cover.
Always loved him much more than all other rock drummers for his black groove. He knew what he was doing when others were still learning to play these drums.
R.I.P.
Of course it would be a great service for us, and I miss it, too, but it is a lot of work, and I'm afraid, a discographical mess. I mean, if they draw on Tom Lord's discography with all its inaccuracies besides the Clef and Verve discographies .....
This note says it all:
"For the purposes of this discography, only the first release of each matrix is listed and shown as originally released on LP or CD."
As there are no CDs listed, they just didn't list them because they were no first releases.
