  3. Bellson is great. But I don't like these flashy fast tempos. I still have one of these things in the basement. To make them really sound good you need heads with a sound that is strong in the lower pitch range, like calf skin, which were invented only much later - the thin plasric skins they were furnished with sound good only when played softly with mallets. And you need special, sturdy stands so you will not pull them over while turning the outer rim when tuning them. After a few years they disappeared from the market.

  5. Definitely not Junior Cook.
  6. Such a great album - perfect musicianship, excellent sound, and maybe the best Ellington Tribute there is.

    Teddy Charles

That actually was a Teddy Charles session. Here is a photo. https://www.jazzwax.com/2008/12/teddy-charles-o.html

Have you saved the session before you added the tracks? I'd say contact Steve Albin. Since he is in the USA, perhaps you can phone him or do an online chat.
  10. My own CDR with the complete session.
  11. Not the tempo for Bennett, that's true. And not for that song, with those lyrics. Were this written for the US version?
  12. At that tempo ....... probably not the mood Jobim had in mind. Too slow, for sure. Whose mind made up that arragement? An idea they should have reconsidered.

Following the turorial step by step should do it. If not, contact Steve Albin with a specific description of your problem, he's nice and always wlling to help. Can you say where your problem starts? When you open BRIAN, it starts wit the sessions window. You click on "new session" and fill in the fields one by one, starting with the date. In case you don not have an exact date you type in an approximation (which determins the order in which the sessions are displayed in the report, check the "ca." box, and type in a "text date" which will be shown in your report. Type in the rest (not all are necessary) and click "save session".After that you can add tracks. You then switch to the personnel tab and mark the tracks to which you want to add personnel. Learning to use a database can be a drag at first ..... I know how you feel.
  14. The song title seems to have been used by half a dozen jazzmen for different tunes, it seems.
  15. This monumental box set, btw., seems to be the only CD issue of this album: https://www.discogs.com/release/10164486-Tony-Bennett-The-Complete-Collection
  16. As close as Jefferson and Moody were, they could have "forgotten" to credit him. I'll check all of the Moody pieces I have with Jefferson singing.
  17. Maybe Moody recorded it under a different tite? That happens when lyrics are written after the tune.
  18. .... together with coffee and homemade cake our friends brought last evening.

Track d fades out during the bass solo. The complete contents of Word From Bird and the Tentet LP do not fit on one CD. OJC reissues were not all compiled thoughtfully, there is one with all of the early trio sessions, https://www.discogs.com/release/7660812-Teddy-Charles-New-Directions .... and two others others which both have tracks from the August 31, 1953 session. https://www.discogs.com/release/1073313-Charles-Rogers-Giuffre-Evolution https://www.discogs.com/release/3497229-Teddy-Charles-Shorty-Rogers-Collaboration-West
