Vocalists? Who mentioned vocalists of either gender? I didn't I just provided some facts - of 315 releases, 5 featured females as the lead artist, the focus of the boxset., 2 others had a male/female partnership as the focus of the compilation. The rest were male. I didn't make any statement as to sexism or not from those facts. Others can do that. I thought the figures might be useful as I'm not sure they've figured in the discussion, certainly not recently.

No record label really means that much to me, I'm afraid. One person's shit stirring is another's giving an opinion or offering rebuttal. Personally I've not really read the OP's posts (certainly before their stated "departure") as being deliberately provocative but no more than offering a contrary opinion to the majority expressed one. Yes, the use of some terms read like getting a defence in first before the onslaught that they predicted would follow (and for the most part actually did). I do agree that having said they were leaving the thread it doesn't do their case any good coming back but as pointed out already that is their prerogative. If that diminishes their integrity in your, and other's eyes, then so be it, they'll have to live with it. And herein lies your problem - it's a forum rule that political discussions are not allowed. Quite how anyone's expected to analyse the politics of anything without that being political is a circle I don't see being squared so your wish, with which I have no issue, can't be fulfilled in this space.

A quick question, is the soundtrack available as a standalone recording? Answer to my own question,appears to have been a bootleg release a couple of years ago

Yep, same response from me. Dull and sounded very contrived. Her previous album 'Vulture Prince' I found quite captivating in stark contrast. I find myself increasingly not enjoying Iyer's releases. It all started with the sextet on ECM which everyone else loved. Previously I'd been very taken by most all of his releases and saw a barnstorming trio gig at the Vortex about the time of 'Break Stuff', an album I really rated One bright spot was the recent TUM collaboration with Wadada Leo Smith

Difficult to say as this set didn't have the booklet. My very sketchy understanding is that Yonin No Kai were an ensemble aiming to re-present, and possibly reinvigorate, traditional Japanese music,they formed in the 50s. Shakuhachi, koto, sangen and jushichigen are featured instruments, sometimes with chamber orchestra added playing pieces by a variety of composers and some traditional pieces. I don't know if the composers were contemporary in the 70s when the box was released or were earlier. I need to do that research still. I've often flirted with Japanese music, primarily through shakuhachi playing (sadly not by me I hasten to add) and love the sound so dived in when Clifford suggested this set. Clifford may well know more and will hopefully be able to correct any misunderstandings I'm listening under.

Yeah, and they apologised for late despatch due to a public holiday. first four sides gone down very well on first listen.

I've obviously not been paying attention as I'm not sure I knew that there was a film, is this different versions of the Western Stars album or something similar (which I thought was very good)?
