Oh no! True titan for so many years, a radical at the forefront of European, and worldwide, music for nearly 60 years. He leaves such a broad discography. Like @RabshakehI was privileged to see him at Oto a few months ago. He played with great depth and verve. The subsequent announcement of his illness didn't really equate with that concert experience. The Tentet+1 Oto concert is still one of the most memorable I have attended. He was a good friend of Oto and visited regularly. Once at Oto I grabbed a quick word with him and he was so self-deprecating about what he'd just played. Let's also not forget his graphic art.

I remember it all too well, watching it live. The final touch just before he shoots is exquisite. His other goal in the match was pretty good too...😁

Doom jazz??! I have one Bohren album somewhere, not often played in the last 10+ years I have always rated the Fire! Orchestra albums more highly than the small group ones, the first one aside which I still think is great.

Another 50 or so pages on and it's settled down a bit, it was the early years that seem just a bit too disjointed. Maybe that's actually a good way of representing how we remember decades ago, not in a straight line I do like the anecdote/musing combination which is really effective in the Vietnam section which is where I am now. Also, did I want to hear those preachers? Absolutely

I'll see if i can stream it, I'm intrigued as the EWF sound is so sui generis I'd like to hear how others take it on. And I completely agree about their genius

60 pages in and I'm finding this a frustrating read. Whilst the content is interesting enough, the seeming cut 'n' paste of some paragraghs/stories lead to some jarring non-sequitirs. I don't need a strictly chronological approach at all but the jump cuts appear clumsy to me and are derailing my reading a bit. this may well reflect how Threadgill chose to tell the story to Hayes Edwards. Hopefully I'll get used to the chosen style as I read on. Whatever happens, I'm not crossing great grandaddy.
