  1. The best/worst thing about that Tower was it was still open after the pub chucked out...
  2. The label did an excellent job of Mingus 'AModern Symposium...', so I will certainly check this out. No shipping cost in the UK so it's about Tone Poet cost point for me. I'd like to have all this music in good SQ as some of the CD compilations I've streamed aren't the best.
  3. Tomorrow at Ronnie's, Xhosa Cole with a sextet plus tap dancer interpreting Monk. Should be interesting. Will at the very least be an opportunity to see Cole live for the first time
  4. Beautiful album. This post highlights to me how rarely Callier recordings are posted on the board.
  5. I thought as much, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it then. Do you know the one he did on another UK label Gondwana? https://dwighttrible.bandcamp.com/album/inspirations also very good. Mind you he could probably sing me my shopping list and I'd like it!
  6. If you're referring to 'Mothership', it's very good John. If you're already a fan, I am, you won't be disappointed I don't think. And for anyone looking for an intro to DT I'd say it works on that level too. Looks like they're releasing another by him in March which somewhat confusingly is already sold out... https://store.gearboxrecords.com/products/dwight-trible-ancient-future-cd?_pos=7&_sid=c4128ac00&_ss=r High quality SQ was one of their founding principles, they've stuck to it
  7. Gearbox are very well regarded and well established in the UK and I suspect worldwide by now. Safe to say Gearbox is a byword for quality production. There's lots of non-US artists in the catalogue too, not least a heap of important Tubby Hayes recordings. They have cleverly diversified to include both historical recordings and releases by some of the stars of the burgeoning London scene of the last ten years.
  8. They were very important to many people and made some great music. Thanks, I'll enjoy the watch with more than a tinge of regret and a bad taste for how Morrissey turned out when his true colours were revealed. However, I wouldn't go within several miles of Morrissey's work now (but this is straying into potentially political so I'll leave it there).
  9. One tune to stream and sample here https://shirleyscott.bandcamp.com/album/queen-talk-live-at-the-left-bank

    RSD Releases

same here. 'Live At Massy' is good too I thougt the Shirley Scott discussed in its own thread is a RSD too, it is in the UK. As is a reissue on Gilles Peterson's Arc label of Lateef's Detroit wiith map co-ordinates album. I'll get that and the Scott I suspect
  11. I was just looking at that on Discogs due to the discussion elsewhere. Looks very interesting I have that and remember thinking much the same when I bought it but when I dug it out a little while ago, after a very long time it surprised me just how good it was. Joe Chambers - The Almoravid [Muse, 1974] Sometimes albums with big reputatiions, and attendant inflated used market prices, live up to and even surpass expectations. Here's one
  12. That's a hell of a run there
  13. yep, great time. I think the Cocteau Twins lent themselves to obsessive listening somehow. I only ever saw The Smiths at an outdoor benefit gig which is mad seeing I was in London for all that period and going to gigs at least weekly in small/medium sized venues like yours
  14. Latest release in the post
  15. Double Image - In Lands I Never Saw [Celestial Harmonies, 1986]
  16. Thanks, just found it on BC, I shall stream it first and then probably buy it
  17. That looks very interesting
  18. 👍😄 Pleased to hear you're rating it
  19. I just bought my first Joe Lee Wilson, 'Shout For Trane' and I'm mighty impressed. Just learnt that he moved to the UK for a good part of his latter career. Things I know now that I wish I'd known then...
  20. Listening to this, pretty astonishing. Thanks for posting it
  21. Noble as 'funky drummer' on more than one occasion.
  22. It was astounding Steve. Great to see Herr B back at Oto. There's nothing like THAT sound. Yes he's slowed down, of course he has but that makes the peaks even greater and "ballad and blues" Brotzmann is very moving. But I always think the key to listening to him play is to understand it's not about him it's about the collective sound and my were the other three contributing at a high level tonight. I'm a huge fan of of Adasiewicz in every context but his contributions tonight we're so telling. Gig for the ages and I thought the first time I saw this quartet was very special. This was a privilege.
  23. Tomorrow - Brotzmann, Edwards, Noble, Adasiewicsz @ Café Oto
  24. You're really giving me itchy purchase finger with these Owls 😀
