  1. I bought that and very much enjoy it, thanks
  2. I haven't read the Koloda but enjoyed the Wilson which was a good overview and I thought pretty well written/translated. Obviously at just 150 pages it's never going to be definitive but certainly gave a flavour of the life and Ayler's contributions to Jazz.
  3. Would like to have seen both of those but especially the second, the idea of Rainey and Taylor together is mouthwatering
  4. Katsuo Kuninaka - Dancing islands [Next Wave, Japan 1981]
  5. Number of times I listened to that as a young teenager and never really listened to the lyrics. Count me as very surprised.
  6. How do you find that? I walked out of the Barbican gig of that tour, self-indulgent mood music and I say that as someone that has another Garbarek gig as one of my most memorable ever
  7. James Brandon Lewis & Red Lily Quartet - Jesup Wagon
  8. I reread 'On The Road' last year, about 40 years after I first read it. I certainly appreciated the writing more this time round but also had less truck with some of its self-indulgence.
  9. Pedro Iturralde - Jazz Famenco! [Hispavox, Spain 1967]
  10. Listening to 'Don't Count Me Out' for the first time. Extraordinary story behind these recordings and that so few of these tracks were issued commercially. What a great voice, a bit of Pickett on the stompers but without his braggadocio. I prefer the mid-tempo and ballads on first listen, a sweet vocal delivery on these, just hanging off the beat. Great musicianship on display too. Thanks for the tip @soulpope
  11. Chilled in more than one way? I saw Arnalds live, very good for about 15 minutes and then realised it was all the same. I was feeling very sophisticated...
  12. And for today I give you Einaudi, Max Richter, Olafur Arnalds and some of the Erased Tapes stable, among others. Semi-classical or sophisticated not-classical depending what you want from it and from where you approach it. All 'easy' to listen to
  13. Psychic Temple - Plays Music For Airports [Big Ego Records, 2022 RE]
  14. Chris Schlarb & Chad Taylor - Time No Changes [Big Ego Records/Astral Spirits, 2021] I'll listen to anything with Chad Taylor involved. Schlarb's work with Psychic Temple made this a must buy
  15. Astonishingly good album. He was a great talent, sorely missed
  16. just from the ones I know that's a great tracklisting . Sorry I wasn't able to participate, hopefully I will get a chance to listen soon and be introduced to some gems that I don't know. Happy New Year, John
  17. A very good writer on both. Do you follow his blog?https://thebluemoment.com/
  18. The final one looks particularly interesting
  19. Thanks again, I've just ordered the CD direct from Ace. I look forward to acquainting myself further with Mr Jackson. Listening to him sent me on a Curtis Mayfield session today (I heard something reminiscent of Curtis's delivery, obviously very different range, in some of the tracks on the Muscle Shoals album), beautiful music and music-maker
  20. And Italy weren't a poor side just played off the pitch by a collection of football geniuses. Definitely the best international team I watched with the Dutch Total Football side being the next (Spain of Iniesta/Xavi, third). But I'm too young to have seen Puskas's Hungary in the late 50s
  21. Sadly not available on my streaming platform. I may have to invest in a CD
  22. Thank you. I shall listen to it today
  23. Listening to this now. My very belated introduction to Mr Jackson. Love this. Where do I go next in his discography @soulpope?
  24. I'd forgotten about Geodesic, thanks for the reminder
  25. That 1970 Brazil team was the first I really fell in love with. Pele was its heartbeat. He won his first WC at 17!
