  1. My copy of her new release arrived yesterday. I passed Clockwise to a mate as I really didn't get on with it - it seemed too beholden to Steve Coleman and Steve Lehman and didn't have enough of a distinct identity, seemed too written, rigid and precise to me. Maybe I should relisten. She's someone I want to like for some reason. However I thought her her big band collaboration with Angela Morris was great so giving the new one a try for the big band disc more than the trio https://angelamorrismusic.com/bigband/ I cancelled a gig attendance for today as it was in a unventilated basement space that sits 30 or so people very snugly. Just not prepared to take the risk with community infection figures as high as they are in London. Live music's important but not that important. Interestingly for me at least, I've discovered that I missed attending art galleries more than live music.
  2. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/aug/08/lionel-messi-tearful-barcelona-transfer A one-club player, can't see is heart moving to Paris even if his body does. Interesting comments about the prospect of playing for free and not having been asked to
  3. My understanding of Rare Groove is similar, not so much a Jazz genre but more a Funk/Soul/US R&B crossover - James Brown at the source. I think Acid Jazz was the more Jazz genre but Jazz you could dance to, preferably at Dingwalls. It came a bit later than Rare Groove but they ran concurrently for a while and probably shared audiences Funnily I've never really thought as Rare Groove or Northern Soul as marketing tags more of club-derived scene descriptors. The marketing came later, somewhat inevitably when record labels wanted to sell the scenes to those outside largely.
  4. No issue with my Tone Poets either. I really rate the series
  5. I bought a NY Mono of 'Unity' from that seller which was in perfect condition. I always look at their listings now.
  6. Which platform is that on? I have a copy ordered but the Discogs seller is being a bit slow so I'm beginning to wonder about it
  7. Just found this on Spotify, early impressions are very favourable indeed. I need to investigate Mr. Thomas further
  8. A cracker to warm up a dull summer's day
  9. Gunter Hampel & The Galaxie Dream Band [Birth Records, 1974] Hampel should have such a greater reputation than I get the impression he does. Always top-notch players and compositions. The very considerable added bonus of the inestimable Jeanne Lee makes a lot of his albums very special.
  10. Roman Polanski Klaus Kinski Eddie The Eagle
  11. Milt Jackson - At The Museum Of Modern Art [Mercury UK, 1965, mono] What a band!
  12. Special frequent purchaser service! It's good stuff indeed
  13. Do they still exist? But I think I've just found it on Spotify so in a way, yes! The boxset isn't too costly at £15/disc, would obviously be a cheaper without the Brexit-tax as they're all in Europe
  14. Just added a copy to my Discogs cart following that self same mention...we'll see
  15. Joe Morello - It's About Time [RCA Victor, UK 1962, mono] Lovely listen, such a good drummer
  16. I really need to find some time to listen to more Reggae. I see your posts and think "Oh Yes, that looks well worth investigating". Too much Jazz, need to break out again
  17. We live in hope, we have to
  18. Cecil Taylor - Unit Structures [Blue Note, 1966, mono] more modernism but definitely of a different ilk
  19. and yet more European Modernism. I've never known a thread to mushroom quite so much or is it just in my listening life?
  20. I'm listening to this now. Very interesting and by the looks of Discogs very difficult to find
  21. Sounds like a good trip. Really pleased you enjoyed the Tynt ale (brewed at the monastery where my late uncle spent his life). That Dikker has a great cover.
