  1. I'm only streaming but to my ears it's clearer, better separation between instruments and more immediate, more 'live' but I always found the 3CD sound a bit dull and muddy so I guess I may be guilty of finding what I was looking for. Edit to add: the music really is very good, I find myself listening to three or fours sets on the bounce just because I'm sucked right in.
  2. Great, no hesitation buy. Can't wait. I hope they do a good job of the presentation and packaging.
  3. Thanks, I keep seeing his name and thinking 'must get that' as the vibes would be great in the line-up. Ho hum
  4. I think it's had several dates, it certainly wasn't 2022 when I ordered it. I daren't now look at the Mandala ship date. I usually wait for the LP rather than listening to the download but I think exceptions need to be made soon
  5. Do you know who's behind Sunbeam and their access to the Taylor recordings? (I haven't read the booklet yet so apologies if the answer is in there). Second listen completed. It's a really good release. Thanks for your recommendation on the SQ a week or so ago which made my mind up.
  6. I didn't realise that, thanks. I had simply imagined that a limited run had been snagged by the likes of your good self and no-one was selling it on,. The music on 'Preparation' is fascinating and the booklet is one of the best I've seen better even the SS's in the Tubby box, dare I say. Decca are really creating expectations, let's hope this reissue campaign doesn't fizzle like previous ones. Such a good album
  7. Is that the session where Milt only plays piano? Seems an age ago I ordered the LP and I've just checked, it's not shipping until January. That's taking the piss, JiB
  8. Mike Taylor Quartet - Preparation [Sunbeam Records, 2021] very nicely produced release. Obviously a labour of love. Now for a Pendulum reissue - this label did the CD reissue so maybe
  9. I think that's such a clever album, the way they progress through the styles on each track from the Giuffre 3 to something way beyond that by the end. i can remember playing it for the first time and thinking "what's this?" on that first track as I'd bought it unheard and was expecting full-on from the off
  10. Yusef Lateef - 10 Years Hence [Atlantic, 1975]
  11. Ken Wheeler And The John Dankworth Orchestra - Windmill Tilter [Fontana/Universal Music, 2021]
  12. If I ask nicely do you think they might run a London follow up with the same line-up? That's going to such a good few days. Enjoy! I particularly like how King Britt pops up in there. Someone I enjoyed a lot about 20 years ago but have lost touch with.
  13. One of today's arrivals from Japan Dick Morrissey Quartet - Storm Warning! [Norma, Japan 1993] "licensed from Chris Morrissey" so hoping it's legit. Sounds really nice. Couldn't wait for Decca...
  14. It's a favourite here. Try and listen to the one previous on Fresh Sound New Talent, it's the one the alerted me to him (apart from playing with Steve Coleman) and is very strong
  15. Interchangeable from the off?
  16. Oh no! I knew he was ill. The Stones have never meant much to me but I went to see them 5 years ago with my partner who loves them. Charlie was an absolute star, drumming for two hours+ and hardly seeming to break a sweat. Modtastic in his late 70s
  17. Only on the Butcher so far. I often think when listening to improv like this that it's much better in the flesh. I must have hundreds of albums that sound like this in some way. I can see why the reviewer would score it highly maybe not me, today. It's very listenable, don't get me wrong. Trombone and percussionist are good and new to me. Three/Three and half stars, so far
  18. Certainly your good deed for that day. Every time I listen to it I find more to enjoy from it
  19. Yusef Lateef - The Centaur And The Phoenix [Riverside, 1965 RP]
  20. Gato (and I know that's not right) Paul or Carla Bley? Brotz, every time and I say that as someone with lots of TB
  21. Yusef Lateef - Eastern Sounds {Transatlantic, UK 1966 mono] this really is desert island
  22. Crystal, wish I'd known earlier
  23. Now that genuinely made me LOL, lovely idea on a few levels
  24. Creative Arts Ensemble - One Step Out [Nimbus West/Outernational Sounds, 2018] 2x45rpm, evidently...
