  1. Also, the linked duet with Pauline Oliveros is something very special
  2. The Great Murray Hoovering. I did exactly the same, chasing down the DIWs and buying anything with his name on and then...the cooling. Only recently have I revisited some of his catalogue prompted by the purchase on a whim of the fairly recent 'Blues For Memo' which I enjoy a lot. I find the earlier India Navigation and Circle sessions easier to listen to now Maybe time to try Shakill's Warrior again. thanks for the nudge I listened to that only last week. Very nice indeed
  3. That was a great read, thanks for posting
  4. now that was a very good album, nestling undisturbed in a cupboard somewhere. I may dig it out
  5. Only knew of it through that Gustafsson site. Hopefully the shop will survive
  6. well you were a pretty hip pre-teen. I blow hot and cold with him but will always respect anyone who can write 'Alison', 'Shipbuilding' and 'Stamp The Earth Down' amongst others
  7. Great programme, completely over the top in an almost operatic fashion at times. Driven by strong characters and acting, story lines that stretch credibility (rooted to varying degrees in historical accuracy) but has a hell of a narrative drive. All the actors mentioned by Brad are indeed superb but so too are those in the supporting roles. It's often compared unfavourably to Boardwalk Empire over here (another great series) but I think that misses the point somewhat. It's certainly changed many perceptions of Birmingham. Red right hand! and I guess you could blind someone with your pinky but not as efficiently as with those razor blades
  8. We've still got some time before the madness happens!
  9. Mats Gustafsson & Jason Adasiewicz - Timeless [Corbett Vs Dempsey]
  10. Definitely legit as Sidewinder says. It's a good listen, Lateef on fine form on a variety of instruments. Ronnies house band acquit themselves well On Spotify in UK to sample
  11. isn't that true of so many live improv recordings. Just found that the copy I'd been ignoring has been sold, damn
  12. How is that one? I've seen it about bt never sprung for it Some great music being listened to
  13. Soft Machine - 4 [CBS] really enjoying Wyatt's drumming today
  14. Yes, indeed. The best of what's left in London
  15. Francois Tusques - Free Jazz [Cacophonic], 2017 reissue
  16. Definitely the one that was eluding the grey matter. Thanks. Many hours spent in there under that name. They sold gig tickets too for Electric Ballroom etc
  17. Sometimes, like when I read posts like this, I just know I was born ten years too late That shop had definitely gone by the mid-80s when I was strolling around Camden on a regular basis looking for obscure rock, best characterised as Indie I guess. The very first stirrings of Jazz interest at the time took me to a couple of market stalls and the shop on the bridge which had Jazz down the spiral staircase and whose name completely escapes me (possibly to do the the effects of other recreational activity at the time). Looking agan at that photo I wonder whether its's the same shop under an earlier guise
  18. And I remember the entire CD reissue series lined up on the wall of Ray's Jazz...picked them all off to have a good luck, I didn't buy any and to this day I can't remember why not Hope you enjoy the reacquaintance, it's a fine session. Tusques' contributions really stood out this afternoon aside from Thornton's of course
  19. I've a few LPs with Rare and Racy provenance, all purchased on eBay or Discogs, mostly free jazz and its ilk. It must've been a great shop in the late 70s/80s from the look of this small sample of its stock
  20. Clifford Thornton - Panther And The Lash [America] a longtime favourite - a gem of a recording. Only just tracked down a nice vinyl copy
  21. Joseph Beuys - Utopia At The Stag Monuments https://ropac.net/exhibition/utopia-at-the-stag-monuments as always with Beuys, very thought provoking, mostly very positive. In a commercial gallery I'd not previously visited. Gorgeously restored and very grand 18th century townhouse. Almost worth the visit for the uilding alone
