  1. Paul Horn - July 9-10 [Pacific North Records]
  2. Count me a big Trible fan Trible has a number of releases all well worth hearing if you like his voice. They're all broadly in the "Spiritual Jazz" (a phrase I'm never entirely comfortable with but it acts as useful shorthand) sub-genre. There's one with the Lifeforce Trio which has a more modern (ten years ago) approach to rhythm and beats I was lucky enough to see him perform at Ronnie Scotts last year where he exceeded my long-held, and probably even unreasonably high, expectations. In person, his voice is a thing of wonder, very powerful
  3. you have your friends well trained
  4. Magical. Here's hoping his health issues don't prevent him from performing like this again
  5. On to Antibes now (saving LP1 for tomorrow morning) and I hear what you say about the sound - denser and a bit squeezed if that makes sense. I do like the organ/sax set up though
  6. I have the French one sitting here too. It's a good job it's a long weekend
  7. This again. The medley on side C is particularly special
  8. Same here. A real "buy with confidence" artist
  9. Tasty. Is it as good as I suspect it is?
  10. Grant Green - Slick! Live at Oil Can Harry's [Resonance] my first dive in. I like the very present sound that puts you in the front seats
  11. Really enjoyed listening to this, thanks. I need to read the rest of the thread now
  12. Definitely Jazz. No discernible Folk and I suspect the World comes from the use of steel pans (which work really well). It's a cracking album. Any fan of Harris or Pullen is going to like it I suspect. Plenty of it on YouTube to sample
  13. Looks like Keith Tippet could do with some assistance from the community of his fans and music lovers https://www.dgmlive.com/news/Help%20Keith%20Tippett https://www.thewire.co.uk/news/50855/keith-tippett-fund-set-up
  14. Beaver Harris - Don Pullen 360 Degree Experience - Well Kept Secret [Shemp]
  15. There's a new Five Blokes just released on Ogun, adding Shabaka Hutchings to the quartet
  16. Late to the party but I've just ordered both (without having to queue ) in no small part to the enthusiasm expressed above and the rather slick but informative YouTube film that promotes them so looking forward to GG fest in the coming days, perhaps even in time for the long weekend
  17. Yes, Happy Birthday Alex. Glad to hear the Oto residency went so well
  18. A man of such impeccable musical taste as well, such a shame...we all have our crosses to bear too many years living and working in N5 and N7 I'm afraid
  19. Hozan Yamamoto + Karl Hans Berger - Again And Again [Victor, Japan] Two of my favourite musicians in a quartet setting. Never quite reaches the heights I always hope for - a little safe, perhaps
  20. I predict it'll not be 0-0 and penalties! I also really hope Klopp can pull off the surprise. It would be great to have a different team win again, especially one with the history and pedigree of Liverpool. However, all football sense points to Real not least because of Liverpool's inability to defend. Come on you Reds!
  21. Let's hope he completes it. It's a testament to him that he's doing so at the age of 94. It'll be either very long or less detailed to go from where he left off to Picasso's death. Maybe he'll just cover the next decade or so
  22. Listening now. Joyous I do have qualms about Spotify's business model but when I surprisingly find gems like this I am pleased I have an account
  23. The Richardsons are very good but very detailed. I wonder whether we'll get another volume
  24. Pat Martino - El Hombre [Prestige]
