  1. Tons of them... https://www.discogs.com/label/392872-Sinner-Lady-Gloria I ordered the Tyler before realising the provenance. Good enough listen but don't expect top notch sound
  2. Interested to know your views as I'm on the fence with this one. How does interplay with "the locals" work? Brief samples I heard suggested to my ears that it wasn't great I think that sums up my thoughts on that LP perfectly. A really enjoyable listen which I need to get out again
  3. What a fascinating premise for the BFT. So many new names and a few known from other contexts (Joos, Balance) to go and discover further. Thanks Clifford
  4. Thanks for the report. I'm glad it was a good show and will keep an eye out for the recording. I don't think I've heard Bopp so will follow your recommendation
  5. Interesting, to have been at the concert would've been great. On first acquaintance I find the studio date the strongest and I'm pleased to have got hold of both as alternatives to the ECM (which I do enjoy but now seems less consistent in comparison)
  6. Charlie Mingus - Jazz Composers Workshop [Realm Jazz]
  7. Just listened. Great concert, thanks
  8. Dave Holland - Life Cycle [ECM]
  9. Oh no, not another great musician leaving us. Such an important voice silenced. RIP
  10. Robinson, Roy, Vasconcelos - Kundalini [IAI]
  11. Henry Grimes Trio - The Call [ESP] some very good playing by Perry Robinson on this one
  12. If you speak to her on Monday please tell her that a London fan very much enjoyed and appreciated her recent appearance. Enjoy the gig
  13. It was great. I saw the Rogue Art notice about the upcoming concert with Maneri and the others - seems like a very interesting concert indeed. I wish Paris were a bit nearer! I'm interested in your comments about her level of recognition. For some reason I'd always imagined she had a high profile in France and it's a shame to hear not. Might this be due to her time spent teaching/playing in the US? I'm surprised, and frustrated, how little she seems to come to the UK. She was due to play a duet with Nicole Mitchell this year but cancelled.
  14. Jimmy Giuffre 4 - Dragonfly (Soul Note) one of today's arrivals. I'd held off for no other reason that there always seemed to be other Giuffre to investigate but this one I like a lot on first listen. Shouldn't be a surprise that Giuffre should make a group recording where his voice transcends instrumentation that in other hands was less successful. It's so Giuffre
  15. I'm not sure if this is old news (it's definitely not fake news) but The Westbrook Blake is being performed at Kings Place 17th March. Just bought my ticket - will be my first exposure (not even heard the recordings)
  16. This looks very interesting, Thanks for posting
  17. David Toop - Into The Maelstrom: Music Improvisation And The Dream Of Freedom, Before 1970 I'm finding this a lot more enjoyable than I thought I would. A very interesting survey drawing on precedents and influences from across the arts with some interesting interviews and a dash of lightheartedness to undermine any po-facedness. I think anyone broadly interested in the subject would get something from this
  18. John Tchicai, Archie Shepp - Rufus [Fontana UK]
  19. Calo Scott! Fred Katz! let the list continue...
  20. Circle - 2 Gathering [CBS/Sony Japan] a board inspired purchase. thank you whoever it was who posted about this (Jeffcrom possibly)
  21. Frank Tusa - Father Time [Enja] more good music on this varied session
  22. Thought the Westbrook fanclub might enjoy reading this appreciation. https://thebluemoment.com/2016/11/20/mike-westbrook-at-the-piano/ I loved the bit about how he's come across his piano style
  23. John Patton - Memphis To New York Spirit [Blue Note] lovely stuff
  24. Irene Schweizer, Maggie Nicols, Joelle Leandre at Kings Place three consummate improvisors presenting an hour of fascinating music. Unusual to see humour used so effectively
  25. I was at one of the evenings from which the two releases are taken. It was a great evening of music and particularly interesting to hear Brotzmann respond to that trademark Parker/Drake groove. There's a track on the CD where Drake plays frame drum and Parker guembri and shenai which was a complete knockout on the night
