That's the one I was thinking of. They started off that performance as a trio and Braxton came on as a guest for one or two of the numbers. I remember him almost blowing the roof off with that contra bass sax on one of his solos, spurred on by Oxley. the roof and my head I think. Wasn't that to celebrate the reopening after the RFH refurb?

I'm with Alex on this. Braxton Quartet on a double bill with Taylor Oxley, Dixon in 2004. The Braxton is the Leo release. In 2007 Braxton played with Taylor, Oxley and William Parker as a quartet. Can't remember if there was a support more a case of duos building up to the full Quartet I was at both - I know that much!

I bought 'Twine' by Leimgruber and EP yesterday in the Clean Feed sale solely on Leeway's enthusiasm for UL. I've often wondered about Om (out loud on this board I suspect). And now I have Reflexion to wonder about too Now playing Eberhard Weber - The Following Morning [ECM]. paid very little for this one a couple of days ago and I'm wondering how three tracks can be NM and one alone be completely trashed (and look fine)......weird. Music's enjoyable once you give it some time

with a fair wind I'll be at the Colston Hall. I saw that one with Taylor, Parker and Oxley. I think the 10 years is since his quartet played RFH (released on Leo) opening for Cecil Taylor, Bill Dixon and Tony Oxley or did they come on after that trio - the memory fails

I found a vinyl copy of this today at what would appear a reasonable price. I don't know Russell's music at all (I know, ignorance alert) so didn't buy it. All Music Guide raves about it but mentions "screeching rock guitar" (not my thing at all) on one track. Any fans out there? How would you characterise the album? all comments gratefully receieved and may well influence whether I'm camping out in the morning waiting for the shop to open......

How is that one? I've often wondered about how it sounds without Vesala's usual cohort on board It's certainly different from the likes of Twet, Live at Remont. As the titles imply it has a heavier and altogether richer soundscape. It lacks the sheer visceral impact these other titles have and is perhaps closer to ECM releases like "Ode to the death of jazz". It's well worth hearing. Have not played this album nor "twet" or "live at remont" in years...a good reminder. And will you be seeing Jone Takamaki, mjazzg? If so you're lucky! Jealous... Thanks Gents. I'd suspected that it may be closer to the ECMs which is no bad thing in my book at all. I'm a big fan of all Sound and Fury albums Live at Remont I don't know at all but enjoy Twet a lot Yes, hoping to make it to Takamaki, life permitting

Jone Takamaki Trio - Universal Mind [Arc Light Editions] Jone Takamaki - s/t [Johanna] Takamaki's just announced a gig at Cafe Oto next month! Chico Freeman - Kings of Mali [india Navigation]. A one side LP for me, side 2 always outshines side 1.

whilst we're talking Tomeka Reid, anyone heard her 'Hairy Who & the Chicago Imagists' album? I'd be interested in impressions if you have

Leeway, thanks for remembering to ask MM. Here's hoping the UK gigs materialise. I'm certainly looking forward to the new album

Sirone - Artistry [Of The Cosmos] of all the LPs I've discovered over the last few years buying vinyl again this is the THE one. So good on every listen and whilst we're at it my 'People in Sorrow' is the unreadable (not Nessa's fault) version

What live music are you going to see tonight?
mjazzg replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Would love to see Berger live. that sounds like a great night -
Really enjoyed this BFT. I'll be tracking down the Azar Lawrence and the Nate Morgan for starters with eyes out for some others along the way I said on the discussion thread that the Callier was just an unexpected delight to hear here. The album "What Color is Love" is a masterpiece but not his only one. Certainly his recording with Orton gave him wider exposure but the real championing was done earlier by DJs on the London scene which ended up with Callier visiting here for gigs at which point the Orton connection comes into play I think

What's the most you'd pay for a CD/Album?
mjazzg replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Haven't paid more than £20 for a CD. LPs are different. One very much wanted and rare item came in at a shade under £150. Next most expensive has been under £50, more commonly £20 or so. -
Couple of gems there. Coin Coin Chapter Two is startling stuff. Indeed. I've listened to both volumes several times on Spotify, but with the new one arriving soon I figured I should start to buy them up. new one soon? when, where? that's exciting news indeed, thanks edit to add: see all about it on the Constellation site. Solo, interesting indeed
