    Evan Parker

    I'll be there, hopefully
  3. Steve Lacy - Wordless [Musica Records] I like this one a lot
  4. If memory serves that's a painting by an american named Kenneth Noland. It took me a few years to warm to Lacy myself but now I have almost everything he's done! Try "the window" or "morning joy" too as starting points. Thanks. I'll go to them next
  5. thanks to Homefromtheforest for the reminder a lovely 'Nardis' to kick off the album and now today's arrival. Love the cover painting apart from anything else. I'm trying to ease my way into Lacy (I know he has many fans on this board) after years of having a blind (or should that be deaf) spot. The Rudd on this helps me a lot
  6. I was considering this but nearly £30 direct from Rune seemed more than I cared to spend. Do you have a better source ? Afraid not. I miscalculated the conversion and didn't think I was spending as much as I did - doh! It's a good listen, powerful and with that Fire! groove but probably not essential. I don't know the first Orchestra release so can't offer a comparison more Jeanne Lee on this one. Certainly not as prominent as on many other Hampel releases though
  7. Fire! Orchestra - Second Exit [Rune Grammofon]
  8. Two copies?!! that's just greedy! (if one's feeling ignored....)
  9. Nope, sorry can't help either. A local store did recently have two different editions of Topography but i didn't get to look at them hat closely Sounds like a question for Clifford T maybe?
  10. Damn you! finally decided it was time to jump for a copy. Fabulous record
  11. 'Rays' before they shifted it upstairs is probably the nearest equivalent I guess. Second your sentiment - it is criminal that a city the size and importance of London doesn't have such a specialist emporium these days. I guess if you combined 'Rays' with 'Sounds of the Universe' and 'Honest Jons' moved them to a modern, pleasant, airy, bright site then it might be close enough
  12. Looks a fine place, the sort of shop I wish we still had in London. I hope they get more customers in there at other times of the day - maybe they all dived out as the Google car came in
  13. Roswell Rudd - Inside Job [Freedom] Prompted by a Samuel Blaser discussion elsewhere on the board. i haven't played this for a long time. One word comes to mind "magnificent" - big, bold, grooves like hell but does so with a disguised subtelty and a lot of heart and soul
  14. Thanks Xybert and Craig P - just ordered a copy from the label. This might just be the album where Blaser comes alive for me. I've a number of his and promised not to buy any more as I'm always frustrated by what I hear as a very single-paced playing style . I keep going back to 'Pieces of Old Sky' which I want to love (not least because of the great band) but it always drags a little. I was very excited by the recent collaboration with Delbecq and Hemingway but came up against the same problem. Undoubtedly a great technician and I like his Early Music investigations most. Fingers crossed that this is the one
  15. KONSTANZE's DELIGHT - Jemeel Moondoc Sextet: Moondoc (as), Roy Campbell (tp). Khan Jamal (vibes), Wm Parker (b), Dennis Charles (d), Ellen Christ (voice). 1981. Another exciting Moondoc album. I like the addition of Khan Jamal. provides nice texture. Ellen Christi likes to get in there and mix it up with Roy Campbell it seems. Enjoying a first listen to this on Spotify. Khan Jamal's name piqued my interest. Christi certainly addds something
  16. Agree with you there
  17. Anthony Braxton Quartet (London) 1985 [Leo Records] done sides A-E so far. F to finish love that cow story. Often wondered whether this was an LP to track down. Often thought it a mighty strange cover. btw image not displaying for me but i know the cover because of your story.
  18. Gato Barbieri - In search of mystery [ESP] Barbieri burns brightly on this but the work of Norris Jones and Calo Scott provides the kindling
  19. Put it on for the Hutcherson track in particular. Great stuff
  20. Sounds like a hell of a band (although I'm not familiar with Zankel). Interesting to put Burrell in that space - it's almost a 'no win' situation for any pianist when it opens them to CT comparisons so good to hear he avoided them
