  1. I feel so much better now......
  2. Thanks for making my day with this news
  3. Yes, i was surprised the other week to see the shuttered HMV on Oxford Street but then remembered the relocation. I didn't bother to look for the other site. Did you visit Harold Moores in your time killing Bev? The gift shop's been a feature at the Barbican for at least a couple of years. There is a music shop, selling scores, instruments and Cds by the Silk Street entrance which is the one I think Sidewinder's referring to - I've never been in it though. The labyrinth that is the Barbican Centre defies any logical navigation suffice to say what is Sidewinder's 'main entrance' is on the other side of the building to the pedestrian 'fountain entrance'. Tthere are still people who attended the opening of the complex in 1982 trying to find an exit, they are heard weeping and wailing through the night
  4. S.M.E - Live, Big Band and Quartet [Vinyl Records]
  5. Interesting, didn't know about that one. I think I'd like to make its acquaintance
  6. That trio of french players play on some of my favourite releases from a few years ago. Intrigued and excited to hear them with Takase Interesting to hear that's been your live experience, Leeway. You pretty much sum up my disc experience of Evans (I've actually avoided the opportunity to see him live) as when I've enjoyed his contributions it's been with Evan's Electro-Acoustic Ensemble or his own release 'Ghosts'. Wooley I enjoy in every context I've heard him.
  7. possibly the best band photo cover ever. And the music isn't bad either
  8. Thanks for posting. Just made it in time. I'll look forward to revisiting some great sounds
  9. I haven't warmed to Ibragon outside MOPDK. For me, it's a case of technique (which i hear lots of) over content which is much the same as my reaction to a lot of Peter Evans outside MOPDK too. But that's just me, I suspect
  10. waited for payday. Payday came, LP sold
  11. first review I've seen here http://www.londonjazznews.com/2014/02/cd-review-jon-irabagon-trio-it-takes.html
  12. Arve Henriksen - Solidification [Rune Grammofon]. Currently Strjon, side C. working through the box in keen anticipation of the arrival of latest release 'Cosmic Creation'
  13. I missed the inteview but thought the gig was great
  14. The last time I made the trip to Cheltenham was a few years back to see Dunmall with Profound Sound Trio - that was definitely worth the journey. This year's line up doesn't really inspire me except anything involving Thomas Stronen is usually worth a listen. They're not Jazz but I would like to see Tinariwen and I do like Gregory Porter. If I lived in Cheltenham I might go and see Loose Tubes, Denys Baptiste and Ambrose Akinmusire but I won't be buying train tickets this year. A fairly uninspiring selection spread pretty thin.
  15. Great session. Full of space and grace
  16. Reflex played London Jazz fest a couple of years ago and were very impressive (I think I'm repeating myself from up thread, sorry). My first real exposure to Virelles- check out his Pi disc, very interesting and different from your run of the mill piano leader date tapping into some interesting rhythms I assume from his Cuban heritage without sounding like Cuban Jazz. One of the few discs these days that is too short
  17. It's a solid album, a solid recommendation. For me, over the last few releases Jen Shyu's vocals and Marcus Gilmore's drumming have been two key components... they've loomed large for me so their absence makes Functional Arrhythmias feel, as much as i like it, like a bit of a transitional record, the start of a new phase. Not that that's necessarilly a bad thing and it may just be some classic projecting on my part... I guess for me it's just a less exciting album than the earlier albums on Pi... more refined but more dry... any thoughts? I'm still buying every Coleman album as they come out and I'm with Xybert on this. I've really enjoyed the preceding Coleman releases to Functional Arrythmias as I heard a greater depth to the overall sound. As someone not usually keen on vocals I've really taken to Shyu's vocals. I've found that I've been a bit underwhelmed by FA and its strpped back sound. Coleman and Finlayson still doing it for me but Tidd and Rickman's return just seems to me to take the music back some years. I still enjoy it as a Steve Coleman album but miss the breadth of sound on the 2007/8 sessions on Pi. I hope he chooses to record and release something by his Reflex Trio with Virelles and Gilmore which was dynamite live Reflex trio did get recorded, kinda. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9h6zLfBr-M Wow, thanks. Now why didn't i think to look there too...doh!
  18. You are responsible for my first vinyl order in a quarter of a century, Mark! Much as I hate the whole 'vinyl only' exclusivity, my Keith Tippett fixation would not let this pass! Will go straight to CD-R on arrival. Thanks for bringing it up. Heavens, I'm not sure I can shoulder the responsibility....you'll be buying a turntable next, ditching the beloved MP3 and buying opera box sets before you know it! I don't think you'll be disappointed by this - KT and the others are all on top form
  19. I never realised there was such a demand for 80s electro pop. Good luck!
  20. Detail Plus - Way it goes/Dance of the soul [impetus] four great players, Stevens, Gjerstad, Dyani and a blazing Bobby Bradford
