  1. prompted by previous posts. It is good, indeed. Followed by some more Dewey
  2. Nice piece CT, thanks. I learned a fair deal about someone I should have paid more attention to when he lived, like going to see him perform with Steve Noble as in the photo that accompanies your piece (Cafe Oto, London I think). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmtomKa5yCo
  3. Thanks for noting this. I got a copy from Soundohm as per your suggestion. Arrived very promptly. Music here seems very fine. I do like bass clarinet. Plenty of listening to had here. Packaging of this set is deluxe! Pleased you got it it. It's well worth it. I actually received a second set by mistake last week and wondered when I posted it on if it might be for you as it went north of the border thanks, that explains how my set from Italy appeared to have been posted in the UK. and why the packaging had been opened! Glad to be of service
  4. I'll share a beer with you on this one. Dim memories of really enjoying the Slim Chance albums in my teenage years but haven't heard anything by him/them in decades

  6. John Stevens - Spontaneous Music Ensemble [Polydor]
  7. Synergy! I just ordered this today after it popped into my mind last night. $5.50. damn, that's got to be the bargain of the day!
  8. Thanks. I really enjoyed his playing with Arrive but for some reason never invetigated his leader dates. Time to change that with this, I think
  9. I have that one from original release time. Nicely oddball. Late to the party here as usual as only just purchased this week. I think it's an album with some lovely writing, especially for the brass. I'm less keen on but enjoy the guitar features. I detect little or any folk influence but they may be cloth ears. It led me to this one which has similar brass voicings Harris Eisenstadt - Woodblock prints [No Business]
  10. John Stevens' Folkus - The Life of Riley [Affinity]
  11. Ressuage - Michel Pilz/Itaru Oki/Benjamin Duboc/Jean-Noel Cognard [Thyristors]
  12. That label's building up a nice catalogue. Waclaw Zimpel's Stone Fog is a very fine example
  13. Thanks very much for highlighting these. They look right up my street
  14. Pilz should feel honored! Pilz is someone whose name pops up enough but I don't really know his playing. Would like to though. Discussed this over in recommendations: I'm intrigued as the image doesn't display. I first came across Pilz on the Manfred Schoof Quintet double disc compilation on ECM which was a revelation I'm a sucker for bcl so I dug around and have only found very interesting sessions when he's featured.
  15. Can't seem to find this online, samples anywhere ? I bought it blind (or deaf?) through Discogs. i don't think I saw any samples., sorry. You might see if Soundohm (who list the label) have samples - they sometimes do. I also saw it listed on French site Metamkine Sound is excellent (on the one LP I've listened to). Music is great
  16. continuing my investigation of Michel Pilz. Another impressive date
  17. back to new releases.... this is vinyl only I think Keith Tippett/Paul Rogers/Mchel Pilz/Jean-Noel Cognard in quartet and other combinations across 4LPs released on Bloc Thyristors
  18. and so does that!
  19. A recording of one of the evenngs is currently on BBC Radio 3 website http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03q5br1
  20. Keith Tippett, Michel Pilz, Paul Rogers, Jean-Noel Cognard. Quartet and various combinations over 4 LPs on Bloc Thyristors today's arrival. First LP sounding great
  21. That quote made me laugh.and yes, I've found a case of diminishing returns although my last purchase batch of the Wadada/Sanchez, Nate Wooley and the McPhee solo were all top notch. I like that they record a lot of musicians that I've not necessarily heard and I hope they continue to be able to throw the net wide. Another recent 'hit' was Tone Hunting by a Polish/German quartet of whom i'd only heard the trumpeter. Took the risk and it paid off. Listening to the Eric Revis with Kris Davis and Andrew Cyrille and it's impressive stuff
  22. They do keep 'em coming don't they. I was initially very taken by the first Day in Pictures but it has faded for me (I really enjoy Bauder in Memorize the Sky). I posted elsewhere how I struggle with Davis's Capricorn Climber of which I had high hopes so like Xybert I may try the trio. As I generally enjoy Delbecq's recordings the Hebert looks tempting. I'll admit to waiting for Clean Feeds to hit Spotify these days so I can sample. I'm just listening to the Pascal Niggenkemper Vision 7 from the last batch - vocalist is currently generating a case of "Irene Aebi flight syndrome" in me
  23. I tried this in google - CD Baby "Rich Perry" - only two titles, neither leader dates. So I tried this google search - "CD Baby" "Rich Perry" and got one more non-leader date I'm not sure how that helps.......but it is less than 138
