  1. Just ordered Hutcherson from Jazz Messengers. Been thinking of doing so since its release, nothing like the last minute...
  2. an email to them might bring an answer?
  3. I'm with Colinmce, "Jazz Realities" - Bley/Lacy/Mantler et al is pretty essential in my book as is NYAQ's Mohawk I'll take a punt on Juba Lee as I don't expect to find an affordable vinyl any time soon
  4. Arrived today. I can't believe I'd never heard this all through before. Glad to remedy that
  5. That takes me back. fantastic album and artist
  6. Reading this listening to Paradoxical Frog's Union- now there's some great, intense, restrained playing by Laubrock on this one. And let's face it if all our favourite musicians played just how we wanted them to every time we saw them we'd have nothing but unrestrained plaudits to post here - what a boring world that would be
  7. I didn't realise Live at Maya came with a CD. Interesting, presumably a CD version of the LP, no extra treats. I've not known No Business to do this with any others (I've only 4 or so of their LPs), have they? Sorry, I go things a bit mixed up. The CD extra came with the Evan Parker/Joe McPhee LP, "What If The Both Could Fly" on Rune Grammofon. I thought that was a nice touch. No Business has not done that before. It seems to me that No Business could have done something similar in this case, since you get half the product at almost half more the cost. Giving us the other Kidd concert on a single disc, or even a download coupon, would have been cool. BTW, I agree with Clunky, that this release sounds a bit dull (turning the volume knob up helps a bit)m which is making a little more grumpy about it all than usual That makes me feel better as I won't have to buy the vinyl of the Maya now. I too like what Rune Grammofon have done with some of their vinyl releases. The Parker/McPhee is a peach
  8. That looks very interesting indeed

  10. Two ex-library copies of 'Once Upon A Time'. There's only one word for that. OBSCENE ! Obscenely lucky, I grant you
  11. North London carpeted with hailstones. Sky as black as coal. No frogs to be seen...only squirrels, not bonking
  12. sure as hell wins the "most intriguing thread title" award for this week! Interesting idea for a gig - I'd be tempted just to see how it pans out if it were local to me - good band
  13. I agrees with other comments that the SOS is more available than the Skidmores. The Ebay prices for the Skidmores are crazy (hundreds £ in some cases) and I never thought I'd own the LPs but got lucky with ex-library copies (two of the Once Upon a Time) in nice enough condition OK, thanks. Apparently home ground offers no advantages-- unless MJAZZG has a different take on it. I suspect many go to EBAY and end up far from home.
  14. continuing this afternoon's theme....
  15. How was that? Dream line up
  16. No. It's a vinyl only release on a label called Hardedge from 2005. It features HT playing a lot of solo Hubkaphone with Zooid passages interspersed - almost a concerto for Hubkaphone!
  17. Japanese reissue Today's arrival. Sounds very nice
  18. There are times when Burton's sublime lyricism is called for and that's right now. I love everything about this album. Goodrick is right on the money throughout
  19. That looks very nice
  20. Been looking around for this one since it was posted in this thread a year and a half ago. Still never found anything less than ~$40 Mark, glad you found this. yes, I am too. It won't change the world but it's a good listen. I can't remember where I eventually tracked it down now - I'd also forgotten that it was your initial post that alerted me to it, thank you It's definitely worth that (if only to see if it's worth shelling more if you fall in love with it)
  21. Tva for Tommy - Stahl/Thorman/Ljungkvist [Found You Recordings] Attractive take on Giuffre/Bley/Swallow trio with vibes instead of piano.
  22. possibly my two favourite Shorters
