    Steve Lehman?

Thanks for posting the promo, Xybert. The live playing of the "Travail..." material was one of my most memorable gigs of the last few years. I think he's a very interesting musician and can also hear a Steve Coleman connection although I hear it less on more recent work (except now that I'm listening to his duet with Crunp I hear it a bit again). I was less taken by "Dialectic Flourescence" than others I think because for me it faded in comparison to "Travail...". However comparing it other contemporary sax trios it was impressive stuff. Just started to listen to the duo on Intakt with Stephan Crump "Kaleidoscope&Collage", another interesting date Glad to see the Octet remains the same but intrigued that Lehman is also now credited with 'electronics'. edit to add: just seen he's doing a five night slot at Stone - how I'd love to see that especially 'Fieldwork' who I managed to miss the only time they played UK
  2. Pierre Favre Quartett [Wergo] 1979 resissue w. Irene Schweizer, Evan Parker, Peter Kowald
  3. I must get that Solomonic Quintet currently spiinning for the first time
  4. I'm yet to jump in. Variable reviews are infuencing me I'll admit
  5. remember a similar sentiment when listening to his other Soulnote outing "Motion/Stllness" what now seems like ages ago....... Haven't heard this one, but the early ones don't look particularly appealing. His more ambitious 90s/00s work suits me much better. I think the writing on this LP isn't too strong, the playing's good. What would you suggest of the later ones?
  6. It's the basement for mine....only about 500 so far
  7. which is precisely what I'm about to do...... edit to add:...well she doesn't half give it some, glasses cracking throughout the flat. Initial response more positive to the instrumental pieces
  8. Tom Varner Quartet [soul Note] - Varner, Ed Jackson, Billy Hart, Fred Hopkins first time on the turntable for about 20 years - not too sure what to make of it
  9. Yup. I thought it was still available from the label (board member ATR) but maybe not any longer. I think it may be. Mine from within Europe which makes postage a lot easier to afford now
  10. Another new arrival. This is terrific

Always happy to follow a recommendation like that - especially knowing how highly you rate AB, colinmce Just snaffled a second hand copy off amazon.uk for £10. Still another one available

    Anthony Braxton

One of my favourite Braxton albums, so good. I was lucky enough to be there that night...one of the single most inspirational musical experiences I've ever had! Blew my 23-year old brain... Me too but my mind was considerably older.....
  13. thoroughly deserved
  14. I've liked everything I've heard that involves Delbecq - an interesting and searching musician. however I've not heard Kartet so thanks for bringing it to my intention. I think I'll investigate further after reading the informative review edit: to add that i just found this short promo http://vimeo.com/86709537
  15. Lucky you! tomorrow - Barry Guy and Maya Homburger in a church somewhere in Hampstead, London There's a little bit of them on In Tune last Wednesday. Haven't listened yet so I'm not sure if they chat: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04007hk Not much chat (some inanity from Suzie Klein) but they do play rather wonderfully. It's where I discovered they were playing today
  16. witness it live next month http://www.cafeoto.co.uk/barry-guy-new-orchestra-three-day-residency.shtm
  17. Thanks Bev. I didn't think it would be that cheap elsewhere so didn't look.....nice surprise this morning. Downloading now

  21. all I can say is that from this distance I can see no reason not to be at every evening one year I'll make it over but as for now I hope everyone enjoys their visit and lok forward to the posted reviews
  22. All I can say is that by the time I got around to "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," the last cut of the album, I had pretty well had it. But I do appreciate your thoughts on the album, CT. NP: I'm a fan of the Human Arts Ensemble in its various permutations: THE HUMAN ARTS ENSEMBLE LIVE, VOL. 1. Circle Records. Recorded live Holland, May 1978. I'm still not completely certain who played on this album. The album credits only Charles Bobo Shaw Jr on drums; Luther Thomas on alto sax; and, John Lindberg (misspelled Linberg) on bass. The picture of Lindberg on the back cover is amusingly postage stamped size, while the picture of Joseph Bowie on trombone is the same size as those of Gray and Shaw, even though Bowie is not official credited on the album. At the end of Side 1, Bowie is mentioned by the announcer, as is James Emery on guitar, seen in one of the photos, as part of the ensemble. Officially though, they are not part of the recording. Anyway, these guys really bring it here. I've been puzzled by that cover too. I don't have vol.2 but aren't Emery and Bowie on vol.2? I assumed it was a shared back cover for both volumes. Someone must have both volumes......
  23. Vinyls of each (Looking at other posts I'm wondering why my Google Image searchs are seemingly returning far fewer and smaller images of late?)
