  1. Marvellous album
  2. Vinny Golia Trio - In the right order [Nine Winds]
  3. and dress sense....
  4. I'm very happy to say I was there. Lucky you! I revisited the LP after a number of years and enjoyed it a great deal. I was struck by the rhythm section as much as anything else. The liner notes seem to suggest it was a lengthy concert with more than on these four sides - I'm not aware of more of it being released, are you? Perhaps no edits on the CD? LP (according to discogs.com): A1Jas Van (For James VanDerzee)15:06, A2Home (Part 1)8:00, BSecret Of The Circle19:03, C1Home (Part 2)8:40, C2Murray's Steps15:23, DConcion De Amor En Espanol (Spanish Love Song)23:20 1999 CD (from my own collection): Disc 1 JasVan (20.01), Home (16.20), Secret of the Circle (21.27), Nairobia (17.30) Disc 2 Flowers for Albert (28.57), Murray's Steps (17.34), Concion de Amor en Espanol (23.40) Back cover indicates Nairobia and Flowers for Albert were previously unreleased. Thank you. I'd forgotten there'd been a CD release. Those timings add up to about two hours thirty - a lot of music

  6. Holy crap... Now, and pedestrian by comparison: Louis Moholo/Larry Stabbins/Keith Tippett - Tern - (SAJ) I'm pretty sure ol' sidewinder has Homefromtheforest nearly beat on the rarities front (or at least they're neck-and-neck). as usual, Cliffie confuses scarcity with value. I don't see that in Clifford's post. His statement is clearly about scarcity - you infer the value is mentioned, it isn't as i read it. Everyone chooses to purchase on their own terms and so should it remain as it really doesn't effect anyone else
  7. Lucky you! I was too slow on the OTo email that arrived at work and they'd sold out. I'm hoping Honest jon's have come to the rescue is it any good?
  8. If nothing else this was one hell of a line up followed by
  9. What a great subject for a thread. A period that I know I need to know more about. Interestingly all the above mentioned titles have orbitted my 'must buy' list for some time. There's lots of musicicians whose music I enjoy that I think were playing this scene - Rivers, Bluiett, Braxton, Threadgill, Leo Smith and I can't wait for some more informed posts on the subject
  10. I'm lucky enough to be able to see EP regularly if I want but a duo with Milford Graves - where's my passport! maybe Evan needs someone to carry his bags.... Enjoy those two evenings
  11. Yeah, it originally appeared on Calig with the following front cover (the Trio jacket is an image from the back that has been tinted). As far as licensing goes, I believe that Trio would have gotten the rights from Berger. No other Calig jazz LPs have Japanese pressings that I've seen, but Trio issued other Berger-related sessions dating to that time period (Muun Music Universe, Kalaparusha/Karl Berger LP). Interestingly, this Calig date came out on CD via Enja, which also released an excellent '70s Karl Berger session called With Silence. Thanks Clifford - I thought you might be the man for the enquiry. Does the Calig have extensive notes? there's lots of Japanese on my insert and I'm intrigued. I'm a fan of the Enja and the MMU LPs and would love to hear/afford the Kalaparusha
  12. The Philip Wilson session is excellent, must look it out. Me too. I do enjoy the memory-jog element of this thread
  13. Karl Berger - We are you [Trio, Japan] anyone know the connection between Calig and Trio? I'm assuming this LP was originally Calig released and licensed by Trio. Damn fine music either which way
  14. Fabulous live experience. Don't miss the opportunity if it's close
  15. I'd heartily recommend it. It was one of the last AH sessions I came to. If you like AH (which you do) there's no real reason not to get it. They produce an interesting sound together- in fact on my first listen I couldn't hear much rapport but further investigation has this as a worthy session where two masters are evident. Some fine AH playing. I've come to value it for its gentle adventureness
  16. all over both. Adasiewicsz at Oto with his Sun Rooms trio was very impressive. His recording with Brotzmann is likewise - all comes together nicely
  17. I know that Picasso isn't everyone's cup of tea but....seriously, hope he's feeling better. It's a small but perfectly formed exhibition
  18. Yes, I shall. One for my next Ogun order with the Hawkins/Moholo Enjoy the Cuneiform (as the Bank Holiday rain beats a rhythm on the window)
  19. How is it Bev? I'll admit to never having heard the Ogun and I feel i should rectify that. I'm just listening to the extended sample on the Cuneiform site and it's intriguing. I do wonder whether two CDs worth of sax trio might be too much of a good thing
  20. Yes, a good. I've purchased from it successfully. The Brotzmann vinyl are probably reissues by this label Cien Fuegos http://www.cienfuegosrecords.com/
  21. Thanks for posting this, it's made my day I'm all over this as soon as it raises its head. There's some fine players in that Orchestra - Haarla, Aaltonen, Lungqvist, Pohjola to name a few. TUM is proving a welcome home to WLS and long may the relationship prosper
  22. Discs arrived safe and sound today. many thanks
  23. I'd like to track down the CD of this Aram Shelton release before I consider the download option. it's unavailable from his own site. So if anyone has an unwanted copy they're willing to part with at a reasonable cost i'd like to hear from you thanks
