I have a soft spot for circa 1974 King Crimson so I've picked up some from this era. Got Toronto, Brescia, Pittsburgh, Heidelberg. All pressed CDs and great audio-wise (last three are recent Japanese reissues.) DMG Live web-site is a good place to decide which ones to get. https://www.dgmlive.com/albums/massey-hall-toronto

Unlikely as it seems, there is a time window during which Kirk could have heard this record. It was released in 1973, Kirk died in 1977. Actually I'm pondering what does Hermeto make of Rahsaan? I've never heard him mention Rahsaan in any interviews nor did he dedicate any music piece to him, afaik. And Hermeto is big on making musical dedications to other musicians, be it Miles, Cannonball, Gil Evans, Jaco, you name it.

Astor Piazzolla with Gerry Mulligan, Summit (1974). I love this one to bits.

Nice. Placed an order through amazon.jp for Japanese version. -

How does the box feel, is it sturdy enough to mainstain structural integrity in harsh environment of postal service handling? Amazon tends to use flimsy packing. -
3 new Miles Davis live releases listed on CD Japan
sambrasa replied to mjzee's topic in New Releases
From the looks of it, this label specializes in recordings that were made before 1968, for copyright reasons no doubt. One Rolling Stones CD has a super catchy name, I doubt Mick and Keef approved. -
Attila Zoller was an early teacher of his.

I don't think there are many here who don't know Coltrane died in 1967. Better dickish than someone who's been heavily invested in jazz music for 30+ years and not know Coltrane's been dead all these years. No, he clearly states the writing is conspicuous. If anything, this "signature" hinders the value. This gold CD would be quite expensive without it. I would like to know why would anyone ruin a beautiful mini sleeve cover with black marker like that.

Found this item on Japanese yahooauctions, seems to be Keith Jarrett Quartet CD signed by John Coltrane. It's a fine CD and quite valuable in its own right but I'm not so sure Trane's autograph enhances it's value too much. To be fair, the seller only states that the front cover has a conspicous writing on it (表カバーに目立つ書き込み). https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d518314688

Gene Perla's personal collection of recordings.

Changed the speed -30% in Audacity and now it makes so much more sense. -

But that would confuse things even more, no? According to Brian Glasser's Zawinul biography, Airto did not participate on the 1st album recording sessions, and only added some vocals and percussion by overdub later. All the percussion instruments on original sessions were played by one Barbara Burton, who Zawinul chose not to credit. -

I used Audacity to record this show in real time. The chatter between those tracks and quality of sound implies this might be a studio recording. The last, untitled, composition might be "Will" by Miroslav Vitous, which appeared later in the 1970's on the Rypdal/Vitous/DeJohnette ECM album. -

Whoa, Weather Report with Billy Cobham on drums. That's one for posterity. -
The topic title does not lie. Almost everyone mentioned is people. And there's three of them!

I saw him in Montreal 2007, with Mike Stern. He sounded pretty fragile then, but I was glad to have witnessed this band.

Greatest piano solo music Jarrett ever produced, IMHO, and that's no small feat. Much better than the over-hyped Köln Concert. Kyoto and Sapporo are personal favorites. Genius at work. Will skip the vinyl reissue, though. I already have SACD version and am quite happy with that.

Another very interesting video here. Miles' Lost Quintet but Chick and Jack have switched drums and piano seats.
-
Felt I had to post some some Chick & Keith music here.

Wayne plays on it. It can be found on youtube actually.

I have this CD. The bonus track is called "Miroslav's Tune."

The photograph claims "onstage with Miles Davis in Japan," but surely the band with Badal Roy and Lonnie Liston Smith never toured Japan? -
Albums with vibes and trombone, featured heavily together
sambrasa replied to mjazzg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I think of Dave Holland outfits with Steve Nelson on vibes and Robin Eubanks on trombone. Recorded extensively for ECM. -
I've got this CD version from 1994.

Jan Hammer was a monster when in right situation. The album he did with Jerry Goodman, Like Children, is wonderful. He also plays some killer drums on it. Also those albums he did with John Abercrombie for ECM, Timeless and Night, wonderful. Robert Fripp interviewing John McLaughlin in early 80s, McLaughlin said something like "Jan's a big rock'n roll lover," must be nicest things he ever said of Hammer after Mahavishnu Mk1 broke up. I guess that he has in common with Eddie van Halen, r.i.p. big rock'n roll lover.
