  1. I've never *not* bought a CD because of the remastering (although I might hold off if I know that an upgraded version is due out in a few months), but I have re-bought titles because they've been re-remastered... McMaster certainly isn't a villian. He often did the best job he could with the technology available. It's not his fault that EMI chose to keep mid-1980s remastering jobs in print well into the 21st century...
  2. Not a breast man, eh?
  3. "Here Comes Peter Cottontail."
  4. Leave the gun.
  5. My daughter is going to be sleeping over at my mom's house tonight, so my wife and I will be going out to dinner and a movie (I can't tell you the last time we had a real "date"). Tomorrow (Saturday), I'll be working from 9 to 5. My daughter will be dropped off in the evening, and we will have an early Easter dinner with my mom and her boyfriend. Sunday we'll have brunch with the In-Laws. My daughter will receive much Easter candy, and I will do homework (at some point).
  6. Ok, people should be starting to receive their discs now. You can start discussion in this thread. I look forward to reading your comments! Have fun! B)
  7. I realize that I did not post any guesses, but that's mainly because I knew that I was wrong on every single track (and I was)! That said, I really enjoyed the music on this BFT and have listened to it several times (both discs). Thanks so much for making this disc, Jim. Great job! Now I have some more music to look for...
  8. Same here. I see no reason to bother other people when my phone rings. Ringing cell phones are actually a pet-peeve of mine...
  9. You think *that's* impressive, you should try to count the number of 'e's in the Perec novel "A Void!" Seriously, I only saw three at first too. Damn!
  10. I'm not unaware! I'm on it! You should be getting it soonly...
  11. I agree with Chris. Can't deny their importance, but for the most part the music doesn't send me.
  12. ...and no acts of anti-semitism like soooooo many were cackling on about. Well, unless you count the church that put up a sign that said "the Jews killed our Lord" the day the film opened... You don't call that anti-semitism? How about the angry letters several film critics have received for writing negative reviews of "The Passion?" At least one critic reported that many of these letters stated that he was acting out some kind of "Jewish agenda" for slamming the film.
  13. I don't know about Ron's mother being in the CIA, but his dad was not a physicist. He was a *physician.* I do know that Ron's mother died when he was quite young, and that her death had a profound effect on him...
  14. Has anyone here seen the excellent documentary on Ron? I caught it on Showtime last month, and I thought it was a scream. Ron seems like a very nice man (interesting to note that he started in education), but very lonely. In the film he talks about how he's only ever been in three or four serious relationships (out of the hundreds of women he's fucked, both on and off camera), and most of those were before he got into porn. He talks wistfully about marrying someday and having a child... Porn people seem to be...well...emotionally and psychologically damaged in some way or another. I suppose that's part of what drives them into the biz (and in Ron's case, keeps him there for decades).
  15. I have the Mosaic set (which I got to celebrate the birth of my daughter four years ago) and the Decca "Souveniers" disc (which was my first Django purchase). I love them both dearly, although I haven't listened to the Mosaic set nearly enough. I'd like to get more Django in the future, though. There's nothing else quite like him...
  16. See I'm a big Andy Kaufman fan. The reason I saw "Man on the Moon" was because I like Andy. I thought that Carrey, hard as he tried, didn't come NEAR doing justice to Andy and his humor. The thing you have to understand is that Andy perfected a brand of performance that was based on everything but HIM as a person. Andy's performance is PURE performance. He immerses himself in each character (and everything Andy did was in character). Jim Carrey, however hard he tries, always remains identifiably Jim Carrey. His face is extremely expressive. Andy's face, by contrast, was often completely expressionless (except for his eyes, which always conveyed a sense of innocence and fun). By widening his eyes and wearing fake eyebrows, Carrey tried to divert as much attention to the top half of his face as he could while playing Andy, but to no avail. Carrey's distinguishing feature is his mouth, and it's very hard to not notice it. I do think that Carrey did the best job he could, but I don't think he was the ideal choice to portray Kaufman (and no, I don't know who else could have done it). Another aspect of Andy's performances is his body language. Very often, Andy barely moved while on stage (there are notable exceptions, of course (the wrestling comes to mind), but Andy was not a physical comic. He was a cerebral comic). Carrey's physical performances are always broad. I will consider seeing "The Truman Show," however.
  17. What did you think of The Truman Show, Alex? I thought that was a good performance from Carrey. I actually avoid Jim Carrey movies (I've only seen "Earth Girls Are Easy," "The Mask," and "Man on the Moon"), so I haven't seen "The Truman Show."
  18. As much as I dislike Jim Carrey, I'm planning on seeing this. I'm a big Charlie Kaufman fan. I've loved everything he's written so far.
  19. Well, I never understood why people have one standard for Jesus, and another for zombies. I mean, Jesus comes back from the dead and its a miracle. Zombies come back and it's horrifying.* It's a double standard, that's what it is!!! *Stolen from Sam Kinnison, I know.
  20. If done right, there's nothing else quite like it... B)
  21. It sounds like this guy has a great deal of natural ability and a real willingness to do what it takes to learn, which is wonderful. That takes up about half the work of teaching right there. If you don't have to motivate the student, then all you're really doing is instruction, which is easy when someone is talented and interested in what you have to say. I wouldn't worry about turning him off by pushing the time issue. If he's as self-motivated as you say, I think he'll see it as a challenge. Remember, everybody has to work towards something. If he's got the talent and the motivation, I think he'll put in the work to make his performance even better.
  22. I have the gold Sony Mastersound edition and the 1997 version with the bonus track. I keep them both in a double CD jewel box, and listen to them alternately. Between the two, I like the gold disc a bit better because I think it has a "mellower" sound (I could just be fooling myself, of course). I like having the alternate take of "Flamenco Sketches," of course. As to my favorite track, it varies. At the moment, I'd say that it's "All Blues," but that just might be because I have Oscar Brown's vocal version stuck in my head right now.
