  1. Music is top shelf.Sound is good other than the basses being way too low.I had to up my bass tone control almost all the way.
  2. Part II of Songs and Views From The Magnetic Garden. We hear tapes(water sounds),kalimba, synth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1wGzJXllPo
  3. Songs and Views From The Magnetic Garden(on the multi-cd Works set) is one of my all time favorite new music compositions.Anyone who hasn't heard it should hear it.
  4. FYI, i ordered the Jimmy Giuffre 2cd 1965 cd from a cd vendor in England, and was informed that my order shipped today.!!Hot damn!!. http://www.systemrecords.co.uk/giuffre-jimmy-jimmy-giuffre-york-concerts-p-1119133.html
  5. Available for pre-order at Amazon.I ordered my set from a British cd vendor in the hopes it will be released sooner over there.Really looking forward to this, now that i know it's a legit release, with booklet notes by Paul Bley. http://jazztimes.com/articles/125585-newly-discovered-1965-jimmy-giuffre-concert-to-be-released
  6. Creative Construction Company-CCC.The1970 concert in NYC that was released on Muse in two volumes.I have the rare Japanese Sony cd of Vol.1.I don't think it's still in print and i've never seen Vol.2 on cd. Anthony Braxton,Leroy Jenkins, Leo Smith, Muhal Richard Abrams, Richard Davis, Steve McCall. You can listen to them on YT but i'd love to see both re-issued.
  7. Ornette Coleman-Crisis.I am told that Ornette owns the rights/master tape of this superb live date from 1969 that came out on Impulse. I can't think of a jazz recording more worthy of being heard again than Crisis.
  8. Over the past 20 years i've bought, perhaps 6 of the Movie Gold cd-rs from DMG,knowing that these are unauthorized and that the artist/estate of the artist got nothing from the sale.I know it was wrong to buy these but the titles were recordings that i cherished for years on lp but were not(at that time) available on cd.My desire to own them on disc overcame my moral qualms.I have resisted the temptation to buy other MG cd-r's when i've been at DMG over the past few years. When the titles were officially/legitimately released on cd i cheerfully threw out my Movie Gold issues of that record. The only Movie Gold cd-r i still own is Ornette Coleman-Crisis.I will very happy to throw this out when the authorized cd of Crisis shows up(hopefully, soon).
  9. Steve Lacy-Flakes(Italian RCA-1974) All the titles recorded in the mid 70's in Paris on Palm Records....Khan Jamal-Give The Vibes Some;Byard Lancaster-Us;Bakaida Carroll-Orange Fish Tears...
  10. I don't know if the tapes for these sessions even exist. With Jef Gilson's death, who knows where or if they are.I'm talking about the recordings on the Palm label in the mid 70's by Byard Lancaster"-Us-with Steve McCall and Sylvain Marc;Khan Jamal"-Give The Vibes Some"(solo and duets);Bakaida Carroll-"Orange Fish Tears"(with Oliver Lake). There are a couple more. I had these on lp and have been waiting patiently for a cd reissue, alas, in vain(so far).

    Richard Davis

Let's not forget it was Richard Davis on bass on those Creative Construction Company sessions from 1970(71?).Anthony Braxton,Leo Smith,Leroy Jenkins,Muhal Richard Abrams,Steve McCall.Quite a lineup of lean and hungry musicians. I have the first volume of the two sessions on a Japanese Muse cd.Too bad the second volume has yet to see the light of day on cd.I'm not even sure the first volume is still in print.Top shelf music.
  12. Yeah, this one merits a look-see-hear.

    Steve Lacy

Estilhacos,Live in Lisbon is quite good, one of the best archival live Lacy's i've heard.I wish Flakes, the 1974 session on Italian RCA, would see the light of day on cd.I recall Flakes with affection. I wish i saw cds from Steve Potts.
  14. why dont my posts show up-i made a post on the Steve Lacy thread and nothing shows up

  15. I dig Donald Smith-Luv(on WhyNot/Candid).Piano trio with Cecil McBee-bass,Jack DeJohnette-drums.The tune "The Magnetic A" is a bad ass, beautiful tune.
  16. Damn. RIP Butch Morris.

My Walt Dickerson faves are Peace, the trio with Lisle Atkinson and Andrew Cyrille, the duet with Richard Davis, and Visions, the duo with Sun Ra.All are wonderful.

    Oliver Lake

Holding Together-with Michael Gregory Jackson,Fred Hopkins and Paul Maddox(Pheeroan Aklaff) is the Lake cd i reach for most often.Good stuff.
  20. There were several recordings made for the Palm Records label in the mid 70s(the late Jef Gilson ran that label) that have never seen the light of day on cd. Khan Jamal-Give The Vibes Some Byard Lancaster-Us Bakaida Carroll-Oliver Lake-Orange Fish Tears I'd love to see these get a proper re-issue.
  21. Received the cd from Dusty Groove(they re-stocked) yesterday.First class in every way, sound, layout, art, the whole deal. I look forward to future releases on International Phonograph.
  22. Dang, after reading the previous post i went to Dusty Groove to order the cd,and they're sold out!.I too have Dogon AD on pre-order from Amazon so it seems i'll have to wait. They better have enough copies on hand or else...or else.....
