  1. You know, with the letters in GregN you can almost spell renege! EDIT: Sorry Greg. Just jumped on the bandwagon for a second there. ← lmao, actually that was pretty good. Wish I were on the giving one of that...but then...
  2. Willie Weeks is da man!!! Damn, his playing on Donny Hathaway's Live album is unbelievable!!! Jim, Joe, and Randy are safely situated at this very moment, 11:03 p.m., in their Buffalo hotel. Just spoke with Jim. He has a fairly bad cold (or worse), with a very sore throat (can barely talk). But Jim will step up to the plate tomorrow night. He is one tough dude. Randy and Joe are giddy. Well Joe is pretty calm, but I could tell he was giddy on the inside. Anyhow, The VanDyck tomorrow night. I will tell the fellas you guys are happy for them re: the Sco gig. Jim, can check his email, via cell phone. So, if you like you may email him at: info@organissimo.org The fellas could use some words of encouragement as they tackle the road. I will playing a gig at a casino this weekend so I wont be back till late Sunday. But will update then. Btw, Sco is one bad mofo. The fellas respect him immensely. It will be a nicely balanced and exciting bill all around.
  3. Oh and Jimbo, pls pin...-o.. ahem.
  4. Thursday, Oct 20th, 7:00p.m. at The Intersection 133 Grandville SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 Tickets Available At Ticket Master Mr Scofield is an icon of jazz and a great contributer to its constant growth. This is an honor.
  5. The one on the left, bigboy. I needed the money.
  6. he does look slightly distracted, in his defense. lol
  7. Sheldon... I love you man!! You are going to get a bigman hug from me when we meet.
  8. That is actually me flying in my Big O Records Lear Jet, with my "secretary" Romana Damona. O.K. it is for a cheesy ad I found on a website. They are selling a rollup piano. I sent it to Jim. He thought it was priceless. I was just digging the piano. g
  9. Will you write me a note? Greg, another place to try in Philly is World Cafe Live, here. This is a real nice venue, which opened in the last year or so. As you can see from their schedule, they book a wide variety of artists, of varying degrees of fame, and the boys might do well there. It's located in the same building as the studios of WXPN-FM, where the nationally syndicated NPR music show "World Cafe" is produced (although they share the name, the live venue and the radio show are independent of each other). The "World Cafe" site is here. It would be great if you could tie in a live gig with an appearance on "World Cafe". The host, David Dye, also features a wide variety of artists on the show, and he happens to be a serious jazz fan. ← Dear Ron's Boss, Ron has a very bad case of organissimosiosis. It is highly contagious. It is best that he not come into work today. (Oh, wait, uh, on the other hand, spread the organissimosiosis!) Correction Ron will be a few hours late but will be bringing in a box load of CDs to compensate. By noon everyone will be fine. Signed, Dr. Leslie C. Tonewheel
  10. Or did you mean Chicago? Either way, that is cool.
  11. ...what would bring you closer ? Actually my friend and fellow board member Sal has offered up accomodations to me for the night so it appears I will finally get to see you guys! I may even bring a camera or two! m~ ←
  12. Almost always good to get a review. And it is a nice one, but I hear ya, Tenderly and Smokin' Section are garnering a lot of airplay and positive feeback in general, so it struck me as slightly odd. Of course, everyone has their personal tastes and interests. Speaking of which, I discoverd your streaming music last night at about 12:45, and heard Horace Silver and Lou Donaldson and some other really really great stuff. I was diggin' it. I need to find the exact tunes so I can buy some music. g ←
  13. Check Out The Link, Then Check Out The Link, Then...
  14. I think the owner knows of this forum...ahem, so all I have to say is, uh, er, So, you say the music is good? Cool! lol p.s. In all seriousness, appreciate the feedback.
  15. If you go to Blues Alley, pls let me know what it is like. organissimo is playing there in Nov. g
  16. Yesiree bob, ye'll git a proper sal 'lute. <heehee hee heeheeee hawww>
  17. If you have any places where you could place a flyer or two, PM me, and I can mail you some promotional stuff. Be nice to have a little grass roots thing growing there. g ← Greg, I'll be there this weekend, wish I had some flyers! Mark ← Me too Of course, if you are talking bout next weekend, I can hook you up. But I think you mean now? Anyhow, You thinking about comin' up to Detroit the end of this month? We are going to be recording live at Baker's. I really dig your pictures, btw. Really close to buying the Buddy Guy. g
  18. That is great news! The part about you comin to the org show, not the other part. That part blows. I saw Wayne and Herbie at Michigan theater about 8 years ago; front row and centered. Awesome and then some...
  19. 300 miles. NYC and DC are a lot closer, but those gigs are on "school nights". Has Greg gotten negative responses for this fall from all the places in Philly I recommended? ← Yes, they said organissimo sucks. What can ya do? No, just kiddin'. Most places book 6 or more months out. We only had a few with which to work. I may try for a November hit. Of course, next spring is more likely. Pls stay tuned... I say drive up to NYC and call in sick the next day. jokin'
  20. here they come, walkin down the street... Jim, pin. pls.
  21. lol. I've got yo free bird. But check this: This Is The Place (Big O Records) was recorded thru the very same mixing board and preamps! How cool is that?
  22. Tell Your Ma, Tell Your Pa Just got the o.k. from the owner, so it is official! Be a part of a live recording and a great time! Baker's has great food and the acoustics are great! Greg
  23. Thank you Soul. Btw, do you guys do Jazz and/or Blues down there? cuz, it would be cool to get both organissimo and Root Doctor down there next year. I mean if you guys like that stuff. You got to know I am teasin' about my question. The music down there is awesome. In fact, with the blues in particular, I saw a four day festival out in CA with Texas based blues icons. It was smokin'! Vast talent pool for sure! And Houston and Dallas have their jazz studs as well. It would be an honor to play Texas. g
  24. Yeah, I dig his stance on chords. When working with a busy keyboardist, I often have to just hit the chord tones (or less). Sometimes, I must even just play air guitar. ← It occurred to me that the ideas outlined in this article with respect to developing "sparse" accompaniment could also be applied by a soloist for just the opposite effect. I don't typically incorporate a lot of double stops or other intervals into my soloing, with the exception of octaves. This article opens up some rather obvious choices (at least in retrospect) for incorporating interval-based licks into solos. Funny how an article related to comping can give you ideas on constructing solo lines. You gotta love the journey! P.S. Keyboardists can be facists. ← Double stops in 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, 7ths, and octaves in all or any of your favorite scales/modes is a great fretboard dymystifier. Or just the opposite on some days. As visual landmarks or cues, my mind relates more to chords shapes and their scale degrees, rather than pure scales. (whatever a pure scale is?). So as I run such exercises (and I am overdue) I visualize different chord inversions underneath. Of course, when I am actually playing, I prefer not to think of this stuff at all. "P.S. Keyboardists can be facists. " lol shhhh I think there might be some lurkin' here
  25. Volume swells. They can be accomplished via the volume knob on the guitar or via volume pedal. Hit the note when the volume is down, and then quickly turn the volume up. Some people get different volume pots in their guitar to allow for a more dramatic or easier technique. Oh also, the volume on the amp must be up a bit to get the nice sustain.
