Buffalo - especially these days - is not exactly a jazz Mecca.
There are a few clubs - a couple of which do all types of music - that book national acts.
My favorite place these days is the Lafayette Tap Room. It's primarily a Blues room though, so I'm not sure is they'd be interested. As a venue though, it's real nice - intimate, long bar, lots of room, great beer. 716 854 2466
There's also the Tralf - modern day incarnation of a legendary Buffalo jaaz club called the Tralfamadore Cafe. They book all kinds of acts 716 854 3068. The guy who runs it these days is new to the business, is in debt up to his eyeballs and the place has been threatened with closure a number of times. That didn't stop Joshua Redman, though. That's where I saw him in June. Joshua Breakstone and John Hammond are on the upcoming calendar. www.newtralf.com
Another place - one that's known for booking an eclectic array of music is Nietzsche's. It's located in one of the rather bohemian neighborhoods in Buffalo and would be a good spot as well 716 886 8539
Mohawk Place is another place that books a variety of acts including blues. 716 855 3931.
The River Grill books a lot of blues, mostly local 716 873 2553
And yes for those who asked - the Anchor Bar still has jazz every Friday and Saturday night and the legendary Dodo Greene still belts 'em out. They seem to have locals booked regularly and I don't think they do music on other nights.
