I spoke with Wayne (or Mr. Segal) on the phone a few weeks back. A very, very, nice man. And a gentleman. More generally, we actually have an handful of possibilities brewing for Chicago. Regardless of where we end up playing, (and Joe's would be cool), thank you for your very thoughtful comments to Wayne. greg

All true....including those legs! I was just comparing the bizarre discrepancy in sales of two artists on two major labels: One artist who, at the time, had crossed over into three or four markets and the other a jazz veteran with legendary status. Krall, the phenomenon, is probably not a good example. Still, many independents think that chart position means sales. It makes sense but it usually doesn't work that way. ← Diana Krall is a gorgeous babe and that is a big part of her market appeal. Of course she's a talented vocalist-pianist, but a lot of guys comment about how sexy she is more than the music and will buy her cds to look at the pictures of her.. Another female I think sold Cds more because her sex appeal is Eliana Elias... And then there's Rachel Z! ← So what you are saying is that Krall's people are marketing her a sex goddess first and musician second? I don't know. What instrument does she play again? New Gigs - Goin' Far and Wide
GregN replied to Dan Gould's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
I am looking in D.C. likely for the Spring. Do you have any favorite spots? I've been in contact with a few, and do have some possibilities. g ← Places like Twins jazz on U street, The Black Cat, a major alternative music space that has shown jazz groups, or even places like The Warehouse on 7th street, a relatively new alternate space. ← Many thanks! g -
Greg, make a call to the club and find out what they say about the parking and load in logistics.. ← Already did Randy. Pretty much consistent with what is being said here. You can do it, just give yourselves time. g

Where can tour info be found? Do you have a website? Greg
-
I am working it Ron. If I can't squeeze it into this fall mini-tour. I'll get it in the spring. g ← Sorry to keep nagging you but, to be truthful, Jim, Joe, and Randy secretly hired me to do just that. ← Well, I hope you are at least seeing some money for it.

He DOES have great socks. ← lol

Making music happen, happens on so many different levels. In my band we all have are differential strengths and weakness. Some are technically better, some have feel as their defining strength, and others keep the musically energy happening. Maybe on a given facet, any single member could be considered the weak link, though, I do get tired of people reducing music to sports terms. In other words, and in particular, on the facet of art, competition is silly. It is contribution to the whole that should matter most. I've played with more experienced musicians and learned from it. And vice versa. Of course, with regards to my experiences with more technically developed or experienced players, I've smoked (ooopps sports term) some of them with my energy, excitement, and vibe. And they played better because of it. In short, the contributions come in all forms. Finally, we all get to a certain point where we do something best. Unique traits and energy are what separate the artists from the technicians. I believe that I can learn from just about anybody. And when someone compliments my playing I try to remember what it was like to be on that side of the stage. For me, it is hunger and humility.

"With sales of 70 million albums in the last 20 years..." that is downright scary
-
Scary and impressive. Uh...this isn't suppose to be a song is it? Or just a series of his licks? Don't get me wrong, the guy has some amazing technique but after about 30 seconds of that sound byte I was done. Why some guitarists continue to go after fingerboard gymnastics for gymnastics sake is amazing to me. Chicks don't dig it. lol Ed works for THD Electronics, makers of the amazing Univalve. He sent me the fuses I needed. He's OK by me. Having said that...shred is OK for shreadheads, but I grew out of it. ← Ed is Ok for me too...not just ok, he is superb! Reminds me a bit on Shawn Lane! -_- @ David: you playing with THD amps? ← Hey, the guy can play. Shawn Lane was amazing! Again, just not my cup o' tea. As a professional musician myself, I want to approximate or at least imply the human voice whenever I can. Nobody I know sings or talks like that. But, again amazing technique. Wish I could do that...but then I wouldn't. It just doesn't speak to me. No offense intended.

The mere fact that he is pulling off this neat arrangement on what appears to be a really, really, cheap toy guitar is pretty amazing. Looks like a First Act*. g * they views expressed here do not necessarily reflect those of the board sponsors.

I guess the question is: did it remind you of your ignoble high school shreddin' years?

Independent music generally doesn't even come close to having the promotional power of the major labels. Moreover, Diana Krall has had huge T.V. exposure and she has nice legs. Hey Jim, any shorts?
