Surely one of the more rugged-sounding Blue Notes. But I also find them attractive. Isn't it "Pensativa" where it sounds as if Spaulding not really knows the melody? Now playing Herbie Hancock's Speak Like a Child (recently acquired original stereo Liberty to replace my blue label UA pressing which is off center).

Brownie, I do not own the Bruyninckx myself, though I've long been thinking of getting it on CDR (or equivalent), but it is my understanding that the categorized books were developed at the request of Japanese collectors, and that an alphabetic A-Z version (in A4 format) was also manufactured all along. Here's an old thread: Bruyninckx A-Z completed In that thread Michael Fitzgerald posted a link for Norbert Ruecker's site which has the discography buried way down the pages. ( http://www.jazz-book.com/disc1.htm ) which I reposted in this thread as well (6th edition of Bruyninckx out). However, I'm not sure even that link is up to date anynmore, as it says that Edition 6 "will be out in July 2007".

I don't look at it this way. From what I've heard here (but mostly elsewhere) I'd rather give my money to Bruyninckx.

Haden is also on parts of "Zeitgeist".

If it's anything like his other A&M album I wouldn't hope for too much.

According to the notes some of the tapes were in more or less liquid form, but it only affects certain tracks, for instance the title music, which sounds rather muted. But I can't listen to that soundtrack without instantly wanting to see the movie.

I'm somewhat intrigued by this band. A friend played "The Commercial Album" for me, and I thought it was fun. I liked the concept and have been trying (not too hard) to find it on vinyl for some years. Downloading the individual 40 one-minute tracks from Amazon at $1 apiece is not the way to go. Any other recommendations? I feel I'm ready to get myself some Residents albums.
