When I ordered from UK Amazon (earlier this week) 17.5 percent VAT was added during the check-out process. I was surprised; thought they had to include VAT from the start.

He'll happily let you stay, but don't count on sleeping very much as he is also very generous when it comes to beer...
-
Next I'll play the quadrophonic(!!) version of Ahmad Jamal's 'Tranquility' (ABC/Impulse), just for brownie! Beats even a good stereo pressing, don't you think?

Embrace digital or die, EMI told

If they can't make any money from the tapes, perhaps they could donate them to their respective national libraries, no? It would probably cost more to destroy them. -
New look for the Mosaic site.

Funny, I could've sworn the 2004 design lasted longer, but the archive proves differently. After checking out the links above I realized I'd forgotten how the site looked like up to last week! So here's: The 2004-7 version -
I'd really like to get that one, but always get outbid on the 'puter. Got my copy at a reasonable price just two weeks ago. I hope it wasn't you a couple of dollars behind me... Now: 'Have You Met Hank Jones' (orig. Savoy), an endlessly attractive record, probably one of my favourite Hank Jones albums as well as solo piano albums.

"Jazz in the Space Age" is marred by a lot of audible splicing. I suppose not much could be done about that. Tenorist Dave Young was a suprise for me first time I heard this album. It would be nice to see it in print in some form.

Belated but deeply heartfelt birthday greetings...

Up!

Don't have that one on LP, and I promised myself tonight would be vinyl-only... Struth! I'll try Hutcherson's "Total Eclipse" (Lib.) instead.
-
Chick Corea "Tones for Joan's Bones" (Vortex). Joe Chambers is amazing on this album, never heard him play like this elsewhere!
-
I second this! "Summertime" has everything that "Troubled Waters" lacks. Good Sebesky arrengements and CTI production - still on the A&M imprint at the time - at its best. It's exciting to hear the rhythm section of Hancock, Carter and Leo Morris or Airto behind Desmond; despite the big band and the reverb they are quite audible. Only offered as a download from the Verve site, but it may still be possible to get this from Japan, and not too expensive. Or get the LP!

I recently returned to eBay after some time, and to me it appears as if the prices on jazz LPs are about as before. But I noticed two differences: lots of Japanese pressings, and sniping en masse. If you're measuring in Euros the reason might be that the dollar has dropped about 30 percent in a couple of year.

"Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 weeks", which means they don't really have it in stock. But it's cheap anyway...

This is more up to date: http://www.jazz-book.com/disc1.htm

The complete version for those who are not already subcribers (and paid a lot from the start) is much more. But I take it it's better than Lord anyway.

The fifth trio session in the UCCJ-9082/86 Corea box will be with Hadrien Feraud and Richie Barshay.

My opinion is that saying that prayers won't do it is no more in place than accusing someone who wishes George Cables all the best for not praying. That said, I really hope George is going to get well.

It would be an understatement to say that I don't give much for Clementine's posting style, but actually there was no bunch of guys; only one - albeit very hostile - post, following a possibly uncareful question.

What, in your mind, is a "cover"?
Daniel A replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
No, he was covering Mary Martin. The movie was made in 1965. -
Recently I bought a CD from Aebersold's (rather new) eBay business. After a couple of weeks I got an email asking me submit feedback. I responded that I had not recieved the item, that it's not unusual with an overseas shipping time of more than two weeks and that I assumed that I'd gotten an automated message. I received no comment on my response, but when I finally got the CD it turned out it had been posted two weeks after the end of the auction; in fact the day before I got the email...

I think at least the Quincy Jones (a nice, but ultimately lightweight album) was, but there are a couple of other releases as well. CDUniverse gives October 9 as "street date"; Verve's website has them as "upcoming" on both September 18 and October 9, but a search in the catalog will only come up with the old reissues, or even none at all. http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/buzz.aspx?bid=37 9.18.2007 Diana Krall - The Very Best Of Diana Krall - Verve Billie Holiday - Lady Sings the Blues - Catalog/Reissue - Verve Duke Ellington & Coleman Hawkins - Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins - Catalog/Reissue - Verve Stanley Clarke - Children Are Forever - Catalog/Reissue - Verve Ella Fitzgerald - Ella in Hamburg - Catalog/Reissue - Verve Ella Fitzgerald - Live at Mister Kelly's - Catalog/Reissue - Verve Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Porgy And Bess Gato Barbieri - Ruby Ruby - Catalog/Reissue - A&M Jazz George Benson - The Shape of Things to Come - Catalog/Reissue - A&M Jazz Gil Evans Orchestra - Out Of The Cool - Catalog/Reissue - Impulse! I think "Study in Brown" is the best Brown/Roach album. It has it all.
