  1. Freddie Hubbard 'Blue Spirits' (Blue Note NY mono). Hubbard's forgotten Blue Note album?
  2. A strawberry cake from me to you... Happy birthday, Reinier!
  3. But that's when Andorran intellectual property law enters the picture... I found an English translation of a draft for an Andorran copyright law which says there's a 50-year protection for recordings (this document from this page). However, I don't know if it has been put into effect. If I knew Catalan the answer could probably be found here.
  4. Heh... I'd strongly recommend Poland by car to risk lovers. I have bright memories from Gdansk... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8Y4bffZxBg
  5. Buster Williams wrote several good tunes for that band. 'Lighthouse '69' inlcudes his "Ruby P'Gonia", seldom (if ever) "covered"... (Edit to change the year to '69) Here's the cover, BTW:
  6. I placed an order with UK Amazon (not the Monk set) on Tuesday 9th; it was delivered yesterday.
  7. Well, I'll join in and wish you a happy birthday!
  8. So what do you think abou it? Now, I haven't heard the Bakery album, but I know that Lundgren can play, if given the right setting. It seems that he is rather conventional when he's calling the shots himself, but can be forced into a more adventurous mode if the setting asks for it.
  9. May he be remembered. I'll spin the Pastoral Symphony (no. 3) with Boult later - my favourite of Vaughan Williams'.
  10. Cannonball Adderley 'Somethin' Else' (another 90s Toshiba pressing). Love Hank Jones' playing on the final vamp of Autumn Leaves - he's really one of the most sophisticated pianists jazz has had.
  11. Joe Henderson 'Page One' (1990s Toshiba pressing which has a very pleasant sound). The King pressings seem to be universally held high in regard; the Toshibas are perhaps more uneven. I'll probably start a discussion about this one of these days - I suppose there are at least a handful of board members which will be able to offer some input on the matter.
  12. This does not sound too promising. How reliable is this service? With the amount of sniping going on these days I wonder if it will really help to use a sniping assistant, as it will depend on the sniper with the highest bid anyway. I suppose the typical sniper does not follow the auction to the last second, so maybe a manual bid towards the end would work just as well. If not - the others were simply prepared to pay more...
  13. When I ordered from UK Amazon (earlier this week) 17.5 percent VAT was added during the check-out process. I was surprised; thought they had to include VAT from the start. That's strange, EU Amazon prices always included VAT before check-out - I just remembered that during the check-out process prices were adjusted to include the VAT percentage of the EU country the customer lives in. Maybe they've changed it and just add VAT at the end. No, you're right! I checked my order and the VAT was not added, only adjusted during check-out. I was confused because in the order summary each item was listed with final VAT included, but the items subtotal just below was without VAT. Except from books, Sweden has the highest VAT rate in the EU...

  15. He'll happily let you stay, but don't count on sleeping very much as he is also very generous when it comes to beer...
  16. Next I'll play the quadrophonic(!!) version of Ahmad Jamal's 'Tranquility' (ABC/Impulse), just for brownie! Beats even a good stereo pressing, don't you think?
  17. If they can't make any money from the tapes, perhaps they could donate them to their respective national libraries, no? It would probably cost more to destroy them.
  18. Funny, I could've sworn the 2004 design lasted longer, but the archive proves differently. After checking out the links above I realized I'd forgotten how the site looked like up to last week! So here's: The 2004-7 version
  19. I'd really like to get that one, but always get outbid on the 'puter. Got my copy at a reasonable price just two weeks ago. I hope it wasn't you a couple of dollars behind me... Now: 'Have You Met Hank Jones' (orig. Savoy), an endlessly attractive record, probably one of my favourite Hank Jones albums as well as solo piano albums.
  20. "Jazz in the Space Age" is marred by a lot of audible splicing. I suppose not much could be done about that. Tenorist Dave Young was a suprise for me first time I heard this album. It would be nice to see it in print in some form.
  21. Belated but deeply heartfelt birthday greetings...
  22. Don't have that one on LP, and I promised myself tonight would be vinyl-only... Struth! I'll try Hutcherson's "Total Eclipse" (Lib.) instead.
  23. Louis Armstrong?
