  1. It's a subjective subject and very much À chacun son goût....and yes, 40-50 years. Watch out if you say the Beach Boys were not in the same Universe of the Beatles. P.S. Joe Harriott and others could swing.
  2. A live recording from Mary Halvorson. Listening to it now. I was in the moment I saw her name. Yes, the first thing I did on Thursday was give Steven Joerg $60 for the box. I'm not an autograph guy so if I was I would have had the box signed by the quartet plus Yamamoto, Cooper-Moore and Leena Conquest. but I am happily not that person. Packaging is simple and very nice - a simple sqare box with indidvidual cardboard sleeves in different colors for the different ensembles. What I have listened to is very fine although having just seen 2 nights in as good an environment visually and sonically that is possible, it isn't quite the same. as far as squabbles, I don't care. As far as William Parker's music, the two nights last week gave me a renewed appreciation of his brilliance as a melody maker and composer - he has a very rare gift that is overlooked by many who eschew his music as they think it is something that it is not. The quartet it the band that many who doubt need to need to hear. Translation: 1. I don't care he and the others tried their best to ruin another musician's career out of pure envy. 2. William Parker was playing with people that wouldn't allow him to go into William Parker Mode.
  3. I posted somewhere that the Beach Boys were not in the same Universe as the Beatles.....and Armageddon resulted. I still think the same thing. Ray Davies really wasn't a fan of Revolver, and English Jazz musicians can't swing. http://dangerousminds.net/comments/the_kinks_vs._the_beatles_ray_davies_thought_revolver_was_garbage
  4. Considering how many want to make it the state sandwich? P.S. Beef on Weck pwands a Fluffernutter.
  5. Couldn't make it past the first minute. Too depressing. Even during Bird's recording of Lover Man....
  6. Met him a few times. Even in his 70's he was larger than life....and styling the white stetson, jeans, and assorted exotic animal boots. The man can tell stories galore. The last real coach the Oilers had in many of the Old School family's minds. They're still the Oilers and can't figure out who leaves Texas for Tennessee of all places. Bum Philips and The Tyler Rose! Be well, and thank you for a laughs!!!! Word!
  7. Congratulations to fans of the Evil Empire and condolences to the Tigers' fans. Definitely cheering for the Cardinals now. Not sure I can handle a 3rd one for the Evil Empire. Going to be a lot of good natured smack talk with family and friends who are fans of the Evil Empire. P.S. Does anyone think Valentine ever gets hired again beside a team in Japan?
  8. I somehow missed this. I.M Terrell might have had the most jazz superstar high school band(s) in history. Fort Worth, Texas Be well! First thing I thought of....
  9. Yes, but when you really think of NY and sandwich?
  10. When anyone thinks of NY.....does anyone even think of Beef on Weck...how many even in NY heard of it? First thing anyone from NY thinks of is either Pastrami, or Corned Beef. You can get into battle royales over them.
  11. Congratulations to the Cardinals' fans and condolences to those of the Dodgers. If I have to choose between the teams that are left, it would be the Cardinals. Can't bring myself to ever root for the Evil Empire (two oldest siblings are the same with the Yankees ), and the Chicago part of me is allergic to Detroit....and it's apparently mutual....the one and only time I was in the city....I broke my foot and needed surgery.
  12. Bill Russell arrested for having a loaded gun in a carry-on.
  13. A lot of those are really regional for that state, or make no sense. How doesn't the Philly steak not make the cut for PA?
  14. "I had committed to charities and things and made some commitments," Ryan said. "I felt like I wanted to see how things worked out. I can't say just because we changed titles on some people that it drove me to this decision because that's not what it is." - Nolan Ryan Anyone want to guess how much they paid to the charities and things for him to put it off a year?
  15. Considering the topic of the thread....I will take that as a compliment.
  16. Still haven't read the article. The story has been around for a while.
  17. If it makes you feel better. It's allegedly his last season of how even had a job in the first place. Joe Buck @ least has nepotism as an explanation. P.S. I take it this is what you're referencing this time with him? http://www.awfulannouncing.com/2013/october/tim-mccarver-teaches-us-about-golf-s-unwritten-rules-wait-what.html Honestly....retiring, or they finally pushed him out?
  18. Barrie Gilbert (aka, the fixation on here on the sound....solid-state) Barroid Greg Anderson
  19. The things I find fascinating about this. He's 4-years older than Puig. He's supposedly slower and nowhere the fielder, but he's going to get almost $30 million more. Yoenis Cespedes would be the closest comparison and he's allegedly getting $34 million more than Cespedes. Next thing....how did the Astros even make the cut? Have to laugh about the part involving the Giants. http://tracking.si.com/2013/10/17/jose-abreu-astros-red-sox-white-sox/
  20. First Carmelo Anthony announced he avoided surgery for a torn rotator cuff and partially torn labrum....he would have missed @ most a few weeks to a month of the beginning of the season (his season ended May 18th of this year), which is meaningless in the NBA....but would have been really healthy.....and now he wants to test the market next year. What a way for this clown to start a season. If the Knicks had a clue of any kind they would trade him....that's if he can pass a physical by another team.
  21. Reminds me of the story of Stefan Wolpe who was Feldman's teacher to think of the man on the street....and they look down from the office window and see Jackson Pollock crossing the street. P.S. My anti-virus keeps saying there is a threat from that site and won't let me see it.
  22. From the you can't make it up, but it's Cleveland and the Browns. http://www.ohio.com/blogs/cleveland-browns/cleveland-browns-1.270107/browns-discover-new-wr-charles-johnson-has-torn-acl-during-introductory-physical-1.437365
  23. Apparently, he's claiming to be in the best shape of his life and added 5 inches to his vertical. The Bulls thought enough of his rehab that they hired Jen Swanson to be Sports Directors of Performance. Not sure what that it says about his previous trainer....who still features Rose all over his site. http://espn.go.com/chicago/nba/story/_/id/9779719/derrick-rose-chicago-bulls-says-vertical-leap-five-inches-higher-surgery
