  1. A site I read frequently recently posted the following snippet of information, which also pops up on many of the "Today in History" sites: June 13, 1920: “In response to separate incidents, the Post Office Department issues a regulation stating that children may not be sent by parcel post.” Does anyone actually have any background information on this? I couldn't find anything but the above fact online. My interest perked up when I read the above. Edit: This would be the US Post Office Department, as far as I can tell.
  2. Oh. My. God. Bluegrass?
  3. And some Barbara Dennerlein, toes and all ...
  4. Have we had this yet? Too many posts in here. Scofield/Smith/Pullen
  5. I just missed it because I'm too dumb. Best wishes & all the best anyway!
  6. LEDs give more head. True innovation all around. Good grief.
  7. And very small you are ...
  8. Nice. Saw Pass live many times. Always something special. I wish he didn't record so many comparatively mediocre CDs late in his career though. Too much lacklustre stuff (although usually he himself was not at fault).
  9. I haven't listened to any of mine. I assume they are in perfect condition.
  10. Depending on how you read that, it can well be misunderstood.
  11. The Mars Volta, ever since I accidentally stumbled into a concert of theirs. I didn't think I could get into music like that anymore, but the sheer power and dedication I saw sucked me into their weird universe. "The Mars Volta" on Wikipedia
  12. This one I'm really looking forward to (once it hits the archive). Somehow I still haven't gotten that Hep CD. It's one of those unfortunate ones that somehow slipped through several times when I was on mad shopping sprees. I have the wonderful "Alone Together" off that CD.
  13. I have managed to makes things crash. Windows, Mac even Linux and even Unix (oh the horror!). It can be done. All you need is to divide by zero in some heavy duty calculations, make the programme running the calculation go wahwah and then the entire machine go berserk... NaN! NaN! NaN! beep beep beep.... Yeah, fun. I have to admit that I used to save partition images and then import the latest virus of the day and let that loose on my PC. A rather odd pasttime activity (and learning experience) but certainly better than a good computer game. Watching your setup disintegrate before your eyes is really something else. Try it. NaN! NaN! NaN! beep beep beep.... indeed.
  14. With a bit of patience, you can set up a Windoze-based PC to run smoothly, with an uncluttered desktop and a very personal setup (hell, you can actually throw a MAC desktop mod on there). I've been completely crash-, virus- and trouble-free for a very long time - unless the hardware fails (damn those Maxtor harddrives). I'd like to have one of each, PC and a Mac (with cinema display). One day ... BTW: Besides a few players (iRiver), the Apple iPods (interestingly enough, especially that marketing successs story, the iPod Shuffle) have a leg up soundwise on the other mp3 players flooding the market with a million useless features and (usually) crummy sound.
  15. At those shipping rates, it is cheaper getting them off Amazon.de via Caiman.com if you are in Europe (unless you are planning on buying a lot of these). Being an avid Teddy Wilson fan, I think the Storyville Wilson disks are essential. The Keystone Transcripts (sound = a bit historic) being my favorite, next to the late Goodman stuff with Thigpen and Lundgaard (the ugly blue one is the expanded one, if I recall correctly without running next door now) and "The Noble Art of TW" with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (bass), and William Schiøpffe or Bjarne Rostvold (both: drums). I really enjoy those.
  16. Yeah, and doin' the Microsoft thing, they're trying to corner the online market over here as well. Buggers. Re Apple vs. France Source: Business Week Source: Reuters
  17. Does all of this have any detrimental effects on the discs burned? Must be quite a strain on the surface. Any online links where this apspect (longevity) is maybe discussed in more detail? What Christiern posted above looks really cool, and I might give that kind of drive a shot if I was sure the discs lasted as long (or as short) as any other (better) burnable. My current setup, printing on high quality (Taiyo Yuden) printables is just a drag half the time.
  18. Very, very cool. I'd love to see you guys over in old Europe, although I know how difficult it is to organize something like that. I'd provide you with a place to crash in south-western Germany, from which you can reach some of the major clubs from Frankfurt to Stuttgart and Munich, I'd feed you, let you have a drink or two and I would try my very best, in advance, to help you secure some gigs. With all the European members here (France, England, Spain and other countries), maybe with connections, I'm sure we should be able to pull it off with careful planning. Utopian, I know. Just sayin'.
  19. From one of Germany's most renowned news sites ...
  20. Yep. George does that to you.
  21. It's George Bush. He's beginning to haunt you.
