The easy way to support the organissimo forums...
neveronfriday replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
Any visible trends since implementation? Any reports. I know it's early, but I'm all giddy about hearing if this is doing it for ya' ... but I'll be patient. -

Hm. Need to get a coin to toss. Let me look at my credit card balance. I might spring for both ... they are relatively cheap at the moment. Damn. Offers. Now I need to talk my dad into giving me the Cole Bear Family set. On second thought, that might be the road to take ... that's a LOT easier than talking him into giving me Coltrane. Thanks for the helpful advice, all of you. @Chuck Nessa: The sentence was fine with me.

I need some help. I can't read worth sh*t at the moment (eye problems) and want to get one of the Coltrane boxes from that (grrrrrr) amazon.co.uk box sale. I have laughingly little Coltrane in my collection (Love Supreme, a comp or two). I'm not much into the more, err, adventurous Coltrane (appreciate the quality, but haven't yet reached the musical maturity to actually listen to it with pleasure, so to speak) ... so which one should I get? The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings The Complete Impulse Studio Recordings Instinctively, I would say the Impulse box, right? Any advice? Thanks!

God, I just HATE this board. -

The Tatum, Fitzgerald, Basie and Contemporrary I have. Are the Ellingtons worth it (in this older remastered form)? And, Monsieur ubu, stop posting links to that money-eating machine! -

Found this list compiled by king ubu elsewhere here. The box set does not include all of these ... maybe there's another box coming, although the rest doesn't merit a 10-CD set? -
Sorry about being late to this thread. Happy birthday, Flurin!

Forget about (most) amg reviews. If I agreed with them, I'd have to throw half of my collection out.

I have about 30 commercial pop Cds released in this format (from the 80s, early 90s). I do remember that there is a site by some English dude online who tried to catalogue all of the commercially released ones. I just can't find it now. He doesn't use 3'' but some other measurement to refer to them. If I kept my bookmarks more organized, I'd be able to find it in a second ... His site is quite comprehensive, but there are some missing (for example some of the ones I have), but those 3''ers are quite elusive ... and went for a premium on eBay some years ago to nutty collectors.

Great compilation. One more recommendation from me (although some people might groan). Lionel Hampton and Oscar Peterson: The Complete Quartets & Quintets http://tinyurl.com/r7oek If you like small groups stuff, these disks can swing your socks off. Just sayin' ... A bit expensive on Amazon, but the set is often available on eBay (or was) for anywhere between $30 and $50. Along with the Goodman small groups stuff, this 5-disc set is at the very top of my list. We did, as far as I recall, have a very good small groups recommendations thread around here which convinced me to buy most of the recordings recommended there. I haven't regretted a single purchase. ... Or the Lionel Hampton small groups Victor sessions. ... My list is a mile or two long ...

I had this one on my server for another board. This was taken in 2002, just around the corner from where I was staying in DK. It's been blown up a bit, but it's Osgood towards the end of the festival that year. Edit: And, yes, his cans were terrible (and had been thrown around quite a bit those two weeks or so) and the cymbals were really old mouldy Zildjans (some people say that old mouldy Zildjans sound better ), but Osgood made the kit sound good ... and it suited his outward appearance.

Good to see this, neveronfriday! You're obviously taking the best medicine available Get on well Hi brownie, yep, I'm doing fine so far. "Best medicine" means that they charge for every breath you take here. They've actually got a Steinway in the hall and there's a terminally ill patient here that plays some astonishing Teddy Wilson stuff every afternoon from about 15.00 to 16.00. I'm his only listener since this diagnostics clinic has very few patients that are actually staying here (no wonder, considering the costs). I'm told that in the summer months, the clinic is flooded with millionaires in for their check-ups. I'll try to be out by then. Cheers! P.S.: They let me out for a few days after the first round of tests in order for me to catch my breath ... I'm going back in today.

There's a review on that other jazz board: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=18909 I saw Osgood live many times. One of the quirkiest drummers to watch, but a very distinct style. That guy has rhythm in his blood, no doubt about it. He's also all over the place in DK ... usually, he's the most active musician during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, playing more gigs than anyone else. On the last day, he usually looks like a ghost. Maybe they play him then?

Just wanted to let you know that I'm really enjoying your broadcast. I'm in this fancy hospital at the moment that's got single rooms with classy notebooks and free Internet access (and no, that's not normal in my country at all) and the broadcasts are helping me get through a lot of painful stuff. I think I've gone through your archives a hundred times. Faves so far have been the Cole, the Christy mix and the Ike Quebec one. Thanks. P.S.: I also listen regularly at home.

I've had cancer, and I laugh about it plenty. Best thing to do. I also used to listen to a lot of smooth jazz. Today I laugh about most of that as well.

Germans win European IQ scores

If the French were to finally move down from those trees, a) they would develop larger brains and b) they could keep all the tourists out who wouldn't visit anymore. -
I think it causes cancer. Actually, I'm sure it does.

I hope the one who suggested this great idea is OK. Best wishes, NOF. I'm not going until beginning of next week, but I have to plan and wrap up lots of stuff before I leave. That's why I won't be around much. But thanks for asking and the good wishes. I'm sure things will turn out alright. Cheers! P.S.: I hope Jim will get some serious money this way. He's not going to get rich, but my hope is that it will help cover the substantial costs of running such a board as this. If members here try their best to shop via the search bar, things should turn out well after a while.

Had the same today, but it's much better now. Several PMs I sent didn't make it through - now it works again.

Jim (and everyone), although it might not be that popular (and it makes life a bit more difficult), let me suggest a route of income that might really help out. I've run several sites in my life and lately I've been making quite a bit of money off the Amazon associate programme (surprisingly much with very few links). If I think about the number of CDs I bought via recommendations here, you could have made several hundred bucks just off my purchases. Now, I'm off to the hospital very soon for an unknown amount of time, but here's, quickly, how it could work: a) Set up one (!) associate account for amazon.us (and maybe one for the other countries) and mail the account data to those people wishing to use it/helping you post the links. b) Then, for example, start a central repository thread in which all the recommended CDs are posted (if someone recommends one, he/she should make sure it is included there) and specifically refer to that threat or ask people to use it when purchasing. Not everyone will do so, but I'm sure many people here would, just to support this great board. c) Start making money. The problem is creating the links on the associate pages. You have to have a normal amazon window open, copy the link to any CD, stick it into a text field on the associate page and then copy out the generated link. That link you can either post directly in the Organissimo "sales" thread or shorten it via TinyUrl and then post it. Everyone that clicks and buys something will make you money. If you have three/four people helping you out with this, it's easy. A concerted effort is necessary though because you, Jim, will probably not have the time. So, anyone posting a recommendation can try to make sure the CD is included in the sales list and can refer readers to that thread via a post scriptium, or whatever. If already some "oldtimers" who want to help out do this, it should generate some cash. Other possibilities: People could have some CDs in their signatures linking to the associate pages, etc. The possibilities are endless if everyone is a bit creative. I have less than 20 links on my site that are referral links. I didn't think I was making any money until I got a mail the other day that since the middle of February, I had made about $250. Many of my readers bought via my site. And kudos to them. Think about it before dismissing it. Gotta go (and will only be around sporadically for a few days/weeks), but I'm sure we have members here that could maybe help out with the technical details here. Best, nof Excuse typos (I'm virtually blind at the moment, and I'm not kidding.) Edit: One of Germany's bigger DVD forums is making a ton of money this way. And I mean tons. They have several thousand users and have a (minimum) 4-digit (maximum) 5-digit income EACH MONTH by supplying regularly updated shopping threads!

micro-review of the Buddy Rich set
neveronfriday replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Can't add much that hasn't been said yet. a) Very good (!) sound on my stereo. b) Being a drummer myself, I only mind some solos that are a bit too much on the "fireworks" side. c) I was pleasantly surprised by the overall value of this set. I'm glad I bought it.
