  1. on the serious tip, i think if you enjoyed the map of the world soundtrack (the film quickly vanished), that you may find something in the way up. remember, that was a 6 minute clip from a 60+ minute composition... -e- Interestingly enough, I went out of my way to unearth this rather obscure film and was majorly disappointed. I don't know ... I love the music and the film just didn't live up to any of the images in my head, the often somber mood, the thoughtfulness of some of the compositions. It just sucked, really. Sigourney Weaver sucked too, sorry to say. Cheers!
  2. Bad news for Verve.
  3. may we simply injur you? -e- Yeah, I can take a little abuse ...
  4. Don't kill me for this, but after having seen PM live in the beginning 80s, which was a major revelation, and after having been an avid listener for almost 20 years, PM doesn't tell me much anymore. It's interesting, perhaps, but there's too much of the same stuff going on all the time. I find it boring and I'm quite disappointed in the new clip posted. Yawn. Still, one of PM's CDs is an all-time favourite (and maybe not one many people like): Pat Metheny. A Map of the World. OST. Warner Bros. 1999. Cheers!
  5. With me, it's a bit different. I didn't have much jazz and got tired of the other pretty large collection I had. Out of the blue (well, it had been simmering for quite a while) I had this "jazz attack" and it hasn't stopped, although it has slowed down a bit. Within a one/two year period I caught up and purchased anywhere between 1000 and 2000 CDs (lots of box sets), many of them second hand or after I had surfed the Internet thin to find the cheapest copy of any one CD. Today I've reduced my purchases mostly to "safe bets", stuff I know I'll like or that is recommended to me by people whose taste I respect. Haven't really gotten any duds because of it either. Problem: There's still a whole lot I know I'll like. And some idiots () on this board are turning me on to stuff unknown to me that just sounds very interesting. Cheers!
  6. Happy birthday!
  7. Oh yeah and that one too... Listened to it a lot this year. For those of you who can speak the ancient language of Moses, there is a review on my website about all Dizzy related big bands. http://www.geocities.com/ztrauq22/bigband/dizzy/dizzy.htm Haven't listened to it for a while. I seem to recall though that the sound was pretty muddled? Cheers!
  8. I'm lost. What could be a reason for NOT wanting to listen to Bill Evans? Did I miss something here? I think it's often beautiful music. Cheers!
  9. I'm still missing that one. As far as I recall, and without checking right now, aren't there different version (Japanese) with the +1 or +3 added? Are there more alternate takes? Or what? Stupid question? What's the definitive edition to get? Cheers!
  10. Interesting. I just thought about exactly that the other day. Without any proof whatsoever I do think that you're on to something there regarding the shifting tone. ================================================== And, Larry, your book is at the top of my shopping list, but I hope my dad will get it for me. Am looking forward to it, one way or the other. Cheers!
  11. I could send you a couple of burns ....
  12. Would you like to give us a ranking order or is that it? Disc three is a blast. But hell, I ain't gonna rank the set. I just love it. Fun. Fun. Fun. Cheers!
  13. Nice to see that someone enjoys this box as much as I do. It seems to be rarely discussed or listed amongst people's favorite boxes. This is a Blue Note board, mostly (but not only!). I have absolutely no problem with that, especially because I'm getting good tips here and am learning quite a bit, but it is only a select few ( ) who actually appreciate this kind of stuff as much as we do. The Lionel Hampton/OP set is exactly what I like and together with, for example, something like the Norman Granz Count Basie Jam DVD, which is a blast to watch because everyone involved is just having clean easy fun, it embodies what I personally like about jazz. Swing. Fun. Groove. Yes, there's tons of other places to find that, and because of many recommendations on this board I AM finding it in many other places, but I always return to mostly small group swing sessions to get my motor running ... Cheers!
  14. Agustín, you're being obnoxious. As usual.
  15. PM sent! If it is, I'm sure you can always contact someone else from the list to get a copy. Cheers!
  16. JimR, these 3 are kick-ass records! all 3... the charlap has, IMHO, been very underrated. look for a new new york trio record on venus next month! cheers + a very merry christmas, -e- I don't have the Higgins, but I say "Yeah" to the others. And yes, the Charlap is much better than what some people have been saying about it. Just played it today. Cheers!
  17. Thanks very much everyone! I don't have much time to write at the moment, but I'm keeping a close eye on this thread. Dan ... yes, I need some Three Sounds recommendations. Make it a shopping list ... Thanks again! Cheers! Edit: typo
