  1. JGThomas - Thanks for responding. Hope I can make it up to Austin and meet you at the show. I'll let you know if my plans work out. It would be great to see Johnny E's show on Friday night as well - wonder if I could drag my 6 year old out with me to see Reptet
  2. I noticed the '04 remaster of "ASCENSEUR POUR L'ECHAFAUD" on that list. Anyone know if this is the long version or the short version of this material? I'm trying to decide whether to replace my recent Jazz in Paris version, which is the short one. And I'm curious about the echo/no echo thing as well, and whether this is the same (bad?) mastering as the recent Japanese issue, as mentioned by the Man with the Golden Gun on this thread. Thanks, Erik
  3. According to AMG, the soundtrack to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is similar to Black Oak Arkansas' High on the Hog... Any other strange connections you've noticed on AMG??
  4. I may have to take a trip up to Austin that weekend. Any other Organissimo's thinking about attending?
  5. Maxwell's Silver Hammer anyone? I have days where it's ok, but other times where it drives me crazy. And everytime I hear it I see Steve Martin from that campy Sgt. Pepper movie that had the Bee Gees & Frampton in it...
  6. I am expecting your divided thumb to resemble this: edit - you got my first response before I deleted it
  7. Ok, ok, since the forthcoming answer has piqued my curiosity sufficiently: How exactly does couw divide his thumb for his other, lesser recommendations?
  8. How exactly do you divide your thumb for other, lesser, recommendations??
  9. Against my own advice, I'll provide a stupid answer Morton was called Jelly Roll because of his ability to make the piano keys "roll" like Jelly. That was the deal. He played so fast, it made the keys roll like jelly because it... I don't know, it just couldn't take the speed of his fingers. Art Tatum used to do it without the jelly-rolling thing, and played beautiful. But I don't think he ever got the accolades that Morton did, mainly because Jelly Roll Morton was the first one. Anyway, I know alot about that kind of music, and I admire those players.
  10. I agree with you, Jim. Since it's from Blender, I'm sure it was compiled by and FOR teens & 20-somethins, their target audience. I mean, if it ain't got "In the Year 2525" on it, how can it be complete? Though I have to give them props for including "Shiny Happy People" - what an awful tune!(and I generally like older r.e.m.)
  11. NEW YORK (AP) -- Starship may have built this city on rock and roll, but Blender magazine is tearing it down, naming the band's "We Built This City" as the worst song ever. Some tunes on the "50 Worst Songs Ever!" list were selected for their melodies, others "are wretchedly performed" and "quite a few don't make sense whatsoever," the magazine said. The list, which appears in the May issue, includes songs by New Kids on the Block, Meat Loaf, The Doors, Lionel Richie, Hammer and The Beach Boys, among others. Blender describes 1985's "We Built This City" as "the truly horrible sound of a band taking the corporate dollar while sneering at those who take the corporate dollar." Starship lead singer Grace Slick says, "This is not me," when the magazine reminds her of the tune. "Now you're an actor. It's the same as Meryl Streep playing Joan of Arc." Rounding out the top 10: "Achy Breaky Heart," Billy Ray Cyrus; "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" Wang Chung; "Rollin'," Limp Bizkit; "Ice Ice Baby," Vanilla Ice; "The Heart of Rock & Roll," Huey Lewis and the News; "Don't Worry Be Happy," Bobby McFerrin; "Party All the Time," Eddie Murphy; "American Life," Madonna; and "Ebony and Ivory," Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. Other songs on the list: Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" (No. 22); Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" (No. 30); Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" (No. 39); Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" (No. 41); Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sounds of Silence" (No. 42); The Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" (No. 48); and Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" (No. 50). Blender and VH1's TV special "50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs ... Ever" airs May 12.
  12. I'm too lazy to reply. search the board dammit. the answer is there. Hey Hey Hey! What is that - an answer??? This is the "Stupid Question Corner". It says nothing about answers, especially stupid answers! We'll have none of that here!
  13. Omedeto Gozaimasu! (this is my attempt at Japanese, very rusty!) ...think I'll stick with: Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag!!! :rsmile:
  14. I'm glad to hear you're ok too Brandon. I'm not sure I'd want to ride in downtown traffic in Austin, or any larger city for that matter. Too many bad drivers too worry about, not to mention buses with lots of blind spots. I've got an old Trek 1400 (circa 1991) that I plan to fix up a little bit and resume riding regularly. Used to ride with a group of people down here in Corpus Christi regularly on Saturday mornings, and occasionally weekdays as well. You wouldn't believe the types of things that happen. We've had beer cans thrown at us from trucks driving by, and drivers deliberately trying to sideswipe us. There was a female that used to ride with us, and at least twice she had people in cars/trucks reach out and try to grab/touch her as she was riding!
  15. Noticed this one in my local Best Buy this past weekend. Anyone have this? I've never seen the film, but remember some mixed reviews back when it came out...
  16. Doh!!!!! Where can I send you the obligatory case of Money Jungle cds, as penance for my crime?
  17. Sorry catesta, but being in south Texas, I'm rooting for the "sorry" Spurs, THE defending champions. Ginobili outta win the 6th Man award, or whatever it's called. And Duncan is equally deserving of MVP, whether he or Garnett win it. Spurs aren't flashy like the Lakers, but they have been consistently solid, and play team ball. Lakers need to pick up their game alot, if they want to advance past the 1st round. I'm sure the Zen-Master will light a fire under them somehow.
  18. I stayed up and watched the Lakers-Rockets game on Saturday. I think if the Rockets had taken the ball to the hoop on the final play, they could've won the game. Either by sinking the basket or getting fouled by the Lakes. I can't imagine that 3 point attempt was drawn up at all. Lakers were very lucky to escape with a win, on their own court no less. But a win's a win, either way. I read the first round is now a best of 7 series. When did they change from best of 5? Could they drag the playoffs out any longer?? It's like a complete second season of basketball (more exciting than the regular season as well).
  19. Up - I'm still curious about this Moran disc. If it's music that's not available elsewhere, it's definitely got my attention. Thanks, Erik
  20. Why do they do this? I placed an order for some discs (primarily some of the newer RVGs) that were listed as "in stock". I didn't realize it was only good once, and had planned to go back later in the day and make another order, for some additional discs that were on back order (available in 1-2 weeks or something like that). But I'm not doing this without the extra 15% off. Seems like they could have simply made the code good for a set period of time, instead of one-use only.
  21. Anybody know if this was this ever issued domestically? I'm guessing not... Herbie Hancock - Riot TOCJ 66021, 1999 Tracks: 1. Riot (First Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock 2. Riot (Second Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock 3. Blind Man, Blind Man (Alt / Herbie Hancock 4. Mimosa (Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock 5. Goodbye To Childhood (Alt / Herbie Hancock 6. Prisoner (Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock 7. Firewater (Alt Take) / Herbie Hancock I'd provide the cover art, but Tower's website uses dynamic pages in the tags, whatever that means. edit - Also, what is this?? Jason Moran - "Jason Moran" TOCJ-66068 One of his domestic albums released with a different title?
  22. Ah, c'mon John - it's easy to keep those two straight. I tend to get mixed up and confuse Jimmy Smith's "Chicken & Beer" with Ludacris', which was apparently part of the Blue Note Cover Series...
  23. It's still there - you just can't see it...
  24. What I want to know is which crate you store your Mosaics in...
