  1. I think people are free to ask whatever they want for a cd. If you think their prices are out of line, that should be in a PM, IMO. Suggesting their prices are high (or giving examples of the item cheaper elsewhere) only hurts the seller. I think this has been a long standing board policy, to the best of my knowledge. And sharing the details of a private conversation without the agreement of the other party is in equally bad taste, IMO.
  2. May she rest in peace, Ray.
  3. Not sure where to really put this, but I just read that Mick Karn (from Japan/Rain Tree Crow) has recently been diagnosed with advanced stages of cancer. There's a page on Facebook (here) for Mick that offers the ability to leave messages (or donate money if you are so inclined) for Mick. In addition to Japan and his solo material, Mick's recorded with Gary Numan, Kate Bush, Mark Isham, David Torn, No-Man, and others.
  4. I'm all for the instant replay being expanded, with two challenges per game allowed each team. I don't think this will downgrade the quality of the game, or the time it takes to complete a game. Dan - would you honestly still feel so strongly about this had this been the Red Sox on the "getting screwed" end of things, instead of the Tigers?
  5. Wish I could make this get together! I have something going on Saturday afternoon here, or I might have made the drive up. Give me a bit more advance notice, and I'll try next time!
  6. I actually agree with Chris. His ethnicity doesn't really seem relevant to your point.
  7. I took this picture of Lance Armstrong in 2002, at the Karlsruhe Versicherungs Grand Prix 2 Man Time Trial. It was a few days after the Tour de France. At the time I wasn't so familiar with the other rider, but it turns out it was Floyd Landis. Interesting to see them together now. They came in 8th in the race.
  8. Interesting change of direction for the SF Jazz group. This is the first time they've paid tribute to a non-jazz artist, isn't it? edit - fewer "big" names in the lineup now too. Still not a bad group of musicians there!
  9. Happy Birthday, Jim! All the best for you, your family, and the band for the coming year!
  10. An alternate solution (at least for U.S. board members, sorry Cliff) would be to keep the Virgin, and then purchase the additional tracks separately on the standalone disc at Target.
  11. Happy Birthday, Chuck! Your contributions to our community are irreplaceable.
  12. RIP, Hank. Classy guy all around.
  13. Best wishes for the coming year, Larry!
  14. I think Jacob & MiB now come across as simpler characters than before. Hopefully it still sets up a rewarding ending!
  15. Lionel Loueke - Mwaliko
  16. Not necessarily - I think it depends on what you expect and want from Facebook. I've reconnected with friends that I haven't heard from in 20+ years, and family members that live elsewhere that I've been happy to get to know a little better. Plus, I'm in the middle of a long-distance relationship right now, and it's a way for us to "chat" live when we're also doing other things, where the phone isn't as convenient or necessary. And I've gotten to know a number of O Board members much better through FB as well. Some of which will remain lifelong friends. For me that's worth the inconvenience of a few emails, which are sent to an address that is used for stuff like this (and buying from amazon, etc). Those get deleted like the rest of the spam.
  17. I think the emails are from people who want you to join FB, not FB itself. So if you get one from somebody you know, it's them sending you an invite. Or it's businesses that have you on their mailing list, for whatever reason. I am already on FB, but still get occasional invites to sign up from friends who have just recently joined, and didn't realize I was already on there. Just delete 'em, that's all.
  18. Should be an interesting episode tonight - Jacob & Man in Black...
  19. Thanks for sharing that, Shawn! I'm still as impressed with PT as I was in about '99 when I first discovered them in Germany. Though they've changed alot, they do what they do really well. The textures and the back and forth between light and heavy in that video are tough to pull off that well, I think. I'm really looking forward to the DVD. Ended up buying the deluxe edition, even though I don't own a Bluray player. It was the 2 cds that aren't available elsewhere that did it for me (Now watch, they'll release them separately).
