  1. Mine arrived from Sainsbury's whilst I was away this weekend. Decent presentation with a readable booklet (always a bonus) and nice facsimile LP covers as CD slipcases. For that price it's a steal!
  2. Like you I have the Joe Castro/Ronnie Ross on Collectables; it will be interesting to hear how the sound compares with these new reissues. The Joe Castro is one of my favourite albums so that's why I'm getting the upgrade (fingers crossed!).
  3. Yes, I looked again after I posted and saw there was indeed a third one (Soul Talk). I've put in a order with CDJapan for that plus "Joe Castro - Groove, Funk Soul" & "Ronnie Ross/Allan Ganley - The Jazz Makers". Very reasonable prices, actually.
  4. Yes, both the Leo Wright releases from this series are excellent.
  5. Hi, The following titles on KPM INT 03 are on Emanon CDOne (from Germany): Doleful City Again To See The Stars Circling And Sinking Plutus Papa Satan (aka Papé Satan, Papé Satan Aleppe) What A Regal Aspect He Yet Retains Do you have a link for a site where this can be viewed? Try the link below. On the site, you can download one complete LP + some titles from the other 2 LPs. They say by mistake full hearing, but unfortunately some titles are missing. http://archive.org/details/TheOstShow9thJuly2011-KpmJazzSpecial Thanks for that Claude. I continue to be amazed by what's out there in the blogosphere....

  7. Thanks for that, Claude. Looking through my Bruyninckx it seems these sessions were released on CD by Emanon Records. I can't seem to find any reference to this outfit. Anyone know anything about this label? PS I can't believe the Emanon Records mentioned in Wikipedia would have released something like this.
  8. I'm a great fan of the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band. Can someone please let me know what sessions are on these three albums.
  9. Istanbul...the jazz capital of the world.
  10. He plays well with Arne Domnerus on "Face to Face". It's on Dragon so hopefully won't cost $500.
  11. Stan Tracey's still playing regularly at 86. Long may it continue!
  12. Yes, I know what it is, I just wondered how the remastering compared to the original Mosaic set which I already own. Thanks for your comments, Lon. So....if I replace my sysem with yours then it WILL sound better...
  13. As a side issue I see that Woody's "Complete Columbia Albums" is due for release in the UK next week at a very reasonable price. I understand it contains some never before released material but I'm really interested in whether it does actually sound better than the Mosaic set. Can anyone comment on whether it's worth buying?
  14. I have all the Muse CDs but...................it's tempting!

    Howard Riley

I agree with you that these are his two most enjoyable albums. I think it has lot to do with the drummer on the two dates. At that time Alan Jackson was probably the best jazz drummer in London and it's always been a mystery to me as to why he's not better known.
  16. With their HQ in Glasgow MG er.... you mean Edinburgh I thought it was Glasgow where you score all your 78s. MG This is the place in my home town - Edinburgh Smart-looking place! MG Well locked-up too! Are 78's that valuable?
  17. Thanks for that, etherbored. erwbol, can you let us know what the CD-R you burn from the "Total Eclipse" HD tracks sounds like please. If it's better than the Michael Addey CD then I might treat myself.
  18. Excuse my ignorance but are the Grundman HD tracks for "Total Eclipse" available for download somewhere?
  19. Not much I DON'T like by him but the one's I play most often are:
  20. I have both the original CD release and the TOCJ and to my ears there is a significant difference in the way they sound. The TOCJ is louder and brighter than the original and the instruments are more clearly defined. However I think I still prefer the original and do play that version the most.
  21. If only Stan Tracey had built a bridge...or a railway!
  22. Thanks for the recommendation, Paul. I've just ordered "Chasin' The Devil's Tail" to test the water.
  23. Did anyone bother to help him look for it ? I think it broke. ...and then rolled under the bed.
  24. Oh dear.....more expense
  25. Nice thread. Whilst I've learnt nothing about "remaster vs digital remaster" I have learnt a new saying, "Hanlon's Razor". Thanks, Steve.
