I have ALWAYS wondered about this! I assume, Chuck, you're talking about when you hear the opening bar or phrase of a track faintly just before the actual track starts. Where _does_ it come from? Always wondered about that myself.

Just got Coolin' myself. Nice session! I can't believe nobody mentioned his appearance on Monk's first Blue Note date. I'll be checking out some of the other sessions noted in this thread, though I already own several. The Weston disc that Spontooneous mentioned is a keeper.

I haven't heard this yet, but I am a big fan of Pandelis Karayorgis. He's a world-class musician and one of the finest players on the Boston scene, in my opinion.

As it turns out, I have more of these than I thought: Curtis Amy/Dupree Bolton - Katanga Chet Baker - Quartet with Russ Freeman Bob Brookmeyer - Traditionalism Revisited Teddy Edwards - Sunset Eyes Gerry Mulligan - Original Quintet with Chet Baker Bud Shank/Bob Cooper - Blowin' Country If I had to choose which one to get next it would definitely be: Jack Sheldon - Quartet/Quintet I probably listen to Katanga, Mulligan, and Baker/Freeman the most.

And then the third disc starts off OK and then slides way, way down...
