  1. I have the Buddy Rich and Woody Herman set on order, they are arriving on Thursday I have no Johnny Smith recordings, but the sidemen look good and I've heard GREAT things about him as a musician. Plus, I do not like to loose a set to the out-of-print "abyss" through my inaction.
  2. I knew the Rich was running low but the Johnny Smith too?!?! Well, I have put myself on a self-imposed Mosaic hiatus until May. I may have to abridge that plan, if the Johnny Smith Roost set goes to last chance before then I will be getting it.
  3. He was an original and way ahead of his time.
  4. Thank you ALL for your input and guidance re: Braxton . I will probably order that set in May when the MJQ set comes out to save on shipping. I am on a self-imposed Mosaic buying hiatus until then (we'll see how self-discipline goes...). I am listening to the Red Norvo recordings disk 12 of the Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions . The Buddy Rich and Woody Herman Columbia sets are coming in this week
  5. I'll be ordering it around 2015 After the Braxton, Threeadgill, MJQ, Herman, Rich etc etc etc Yeah, same here... except I have the Braxton already. Guess the Ellington will be one to get rather soon though, as I just want to hear all of that music! You won't regret the Ellington set lot's to explore in that set, I am on the fence about Braxton. Is it plain enjoyable, or more academic? I don't have very much of this type of music. Opinions?
  6. Just because it's not on the website doesn't change that it's really is running low...like I said, both Fred and later in the day Scott told me it will be put on the running low/last chance list (not sure which one they will put it on). You can call and ask yourself if you don't believe me! I'm not here to start rumors Relax, I didn't say it wasn't running low or that you weren't telling the truth, I just noted that it hadn't been listed yet. Sorry, J.A.W. I mistakenly read into what you were saying. :blush2: I've been a member of other forums that get pretty dramatic, etc...
  7. I was totally taken aback at the true genius Benny Goodman was. Incredible musicianship. I do not have the big Andrew Hill.....on the list (if I can find a cheap price yeah right,,,,). BTW, I just received the Sam Rivers Blue Note set (got it for $29.99 ) it's in great shape, and the playing is wonderful. Looking forward to spending some time with it after the PACKERS with on Sunday

  9. No Problem!!! Anyways, I will let you know what set number I get when it comes in late next week (they are shipping it on Monday)---I also ordered the Woody Herman Columbia set as well, any opinions on that? I need to go on a Mosaic hiatus until May when the MJQ set comes out. SELF DISCIPLINE!
  10. Sorry for the confusion, ONLY the Buddy Rich set is running low/last chance (not sure what they are going to "label" it). Not sure what the stock on the other sets are. The deal with the Quincy Jones set is I broke disk 3 and they are sending me a replacement copy! I was worried, I'd have to buy a new set.
  11. No Mail order! Got off the phone with them this morning, I understand wanting to sell to your local customer base, but I was ready to spend some CASH!
  12. Well, who knows how many they are selling per day or week. But it took me by surprise that it's making the dreaded list. The Bix/Trumbauer/Teagarden set was on the Running Low/Last Chance lists for quite a long time. You'll probably be fine for a couple of months, but I'd call and ask how many they have left. Again, they just received their LAST pressing of the Buddy Rich set. Once this is gone, that's it. I just got off the phone (again) with Scott and I forgot to get a replacement disk III for the Quincy Jones set (I broke it....long story) and he said that they have more than 500 but he was unsure of the number. BTW, Mosaic is a classy company, they didn't even charge me for the broken cd!!! Very relieved.

  14. Hey all, I put in an order for the Buddy Rich and the Woody Herman box sets today and Fred told me that they just received the last pressing of the Buddy Rich set and they will be sending out an email with it on the "Last Chance" list. Just a heads up to all that kinda wanted it. Now's the time!
  15. The Complete Capitol Small Group Recordings of Benny Goodman 1944-1955. Disk one. TRACK 1. After you've gone. SEVEN TIMES. Benny Goodman is a clarinet genius.
  16. Depends on which barrel you are talking about Creed Taylor gets a bad rap, but he put some great musicians in good settings. I'm thinking in particular of the Johnny Hodges with Billy Strayhorn and THE orchestra. Beautiful music.
  17. Thanks for the heads up! I am so out of the loop with the new release and re-release market these days... I will be getting this
  18. Duke Ellington Reprise recordings. Disk 1, "Contrasts" Duke had a beautiful band during this era.
  19. That would be great if Malcolm Addey remastered this set. It would guarantee an awesome listening experience. Who has Mosaic gotten to remaster Atlantic sets in the past?
  20. Ahhh yes. I have the Mosaic Ahmad Jamal set which was remastered from digital sources and I think Malcolm Addey did a good job with that...but you bring up a good point. Anybody know for sure???
  21. I hate Collectables. It's long been a vortex of lousy remastering and tacky packaging into which much classic music disappears, never to be reissued by anyone else. Mosaic was put off doing a Dakota Staton set by Collectables bringing out its own slapdash releases. I'm hoping that this is a sign that that won't be a problem any more. Also, isn't this the first Mosaic release of WEA material since the Ellington Reprise set (#193)? And it's the first of Atlantic material since the Atlantic New Orleans Jazz Sessions (#179). That was one of the things that surprised me. Totally agree with what you are saying! Thanks for posting. I hope this is too a sign of things to come from Mosaic. It's too bad that Mosaic sometimes gets beat out by such shoddy labels such as Collectables. Crisp, you make another good point, lousy remastering. True, some of this music may be out on the market, but is it remastered to the best sound possible??? Probably not. Not to mention the level of quality and detail that Mosaic puts into the booklet.
  22. Ouch! That's great that Mosaic is replacing the disk, but still, OUCH! Hopefully you'll get the disk soon! Just arrived! Glad that the replacement cd came so quickly!!! Mosaic is a classy company with loyal, long-term customers.
  23. The Mosaic announcement only mentions LPs for the Getz set. Am I missing something? It appears it is only offered in LP format. The 60s Ellington/Fitzgearald set is LP only as well. I will get this set as well. Hate to be a downer, but I thought the Lunceford set was coming out first this year.... ....but I'm happily surprised
  24. I ordered more OOP Mosaics: Benny Goodman 1944-1955 Small groups, Ike Qubeck 45 sessions, Lou Donaldson and Sam Rivers Blue Note recordings EXCITED!! I got some good deals and JUSt had to....
