Damn Chuck, I knew you were old but that's ridiculous!

Well, whatever her ethnicity, I still find her to be scrumptious.

Beautiful? that's debateable I don't know. Maybe it's the Italian in me, but i find her to be scrumptious.

I saw them two nights later in Seattle, and if that show was anything near to the show I saw, Mr. Heckman has his head firmly planted up his arse. These motherfuckers can ‘out-jazz’ almost any big-name jazz act currently playing in the NY jazz clubs in their sleep. These guys are virtuosos! They slip from Dixieland to Swing to Be-Bop to modern improvisation seamlessly and with conviction. The tune was called 'Locomotion' Mr. Heckman, and anyone who has ever heard Han Bennink play knows that he swings harder than anybody this side of Art Blakey. Does he not know that bass drum, four to the bar was the jazz drummer’s modus operandi in the 20's? This guy was either having a bad night, is an idiot, or has a bone to pick with the group or one of its members. I simply can't see how the LA show could be that much different than the Seattle one. And to think he actually got paid to write that crap.

I love the Sopranos I find that new one "Big Love" to be slightly disturbing yet very compelling. It's a good one as well. We'll see if it can reach the levels of The Sopranos or 6 Feet Under - I doubt it, but we'll see.

I see Phil Leotardo getting some retribution for the murder of his brother (and his not being able to enact proper justice) in coming episodes. Right now Johnny Sack is the only one keeping him from it. But with him in jail indefinitely, I don't think he'll be able to keep him on a leash for very much longer. Meadow has really blossomed into a beautiful woman hasn't she? Her man Finn better tell somebody about Vito's cock suckin' ways soon or he's gonna wind up dead just like her previous boyfriend Jackie.

That's awesome. I'll certainly use it. Keep us posted on how this all turns out for you guys.

I highly recommend this as well. We record our rehearsals and our gigs. This way the composers can hear the harmonies and tweak the arrangements as well reinforce the tunes in our minds so we can get away from having music stands on stage when we play. Our goal is to memorize al our tunes if at all possible. Recording gigs and rehearsals also help keep you from repeating the same mistakes over and over.

Troy, where'd you record at? Who are some of the players you're playin' with? Maybe I know them. Since my son was born I haven't been gigging as much as I use too. I'm now just focusing on my main project - Reptet. Let me know when you're gonna have one of those open jam thingies you were talkin' about. I'd love to play with you some time. -john

Overdubbing, how prevalent is it in jazz?
Johnny E replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Didn't Mingus use edits and overdubs a lot? Sometimes I feel like I can hear it on some of the albums - especially his Candid recordings. -
I'm just now getting into these recordings and I love them. Does anybody know what the best book out there is on the sacco & vanzetti case?

As great as Sadaharu Oh was, you can argue that the pitching he faced was not the same caliber as Aaron. You can not say that about Josh Gibson though. "Josh Gibson hit nearly an eye-popping 800 career homers, including a high of 75 in one year. He was the most powerful player in the National Negro Leagues. He made his debut with the Homestead Grays as a 18-year-old in 1930. Almost immediately, Gibson was called 'the greatest hitter that ever lived'. In his first full season he hit a homer in Monessen, PA that was measured by the town's major at 512 feet. In 1933, while playing for the Pittsburgh Crawfords, Josh Gibson batted 512 times, hit 55 homers and drove home an awesome 239 runs. In his last full season, 1945, he won another Negro League batting crown with .393. Josh Gibson was diagnosed with a brain tumor but continue to play baseball and died in his sleep - January 1947 at the age on 37. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1972. Because of unreliable statistics during his early years, baseballhistorian.com, relying on sketchy records, guesses that Josh Gibson's career stats are: .340 batting average, 700 doubles, 800 home runs and 2,000 RBIs. In recorded at-bats against big league pitching, Gibson batted .426. It was often claimed that he was the only batter ever hit a fair ball out of Yankee Stadium. In fact, it never happened, but his 1930 homer against the Lincoln Giants was the longest ball he ever hit in Yankee Stadium. On March 20, 1937, Gibson was credited with a drive that hit just two feet below the rim of Yankee Stadium, about 580 feet from home plate. It was estimated that the ball would have traveled nearly 700 feet . He died just three months before the integration of baseball in the major leagues. " Baseballhistorian.com Research Dept. -

Seeking some advice on a situation with a neighbor...
Johnny E replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I totally agree with Jim on this. Don’t call the police or child protective services until you know a little more about the situation. Go over to your neighbors house and in an unthreatening way, explain what happened, let her know how cute the kids are (but also how concerned you were) and offer help if they need it. That's the Christian thing to do, no? If you get the feeling that something is not right after you've stopped by, then consider the police, etc. I grew up very poor like Jim, and I had hungry friends coming to my house for my mom's Italian cooking almost everyday (it's amazing how far you can stretch a little garlic, oil, tomato paste and pasta). We had a real neighborhood feel. But now it seems that the entire country is so scared to talk to one another, we've been brainwashed to think that there is a child molester on every corner and that the answer to every problem is to call the cops. I can't tell you how many times the cops came to my house because my teenage friends and me were jamming. If the neighbors would have just knocked up we would have gladly turned down or stopped if need be. But no, the cops to our door every other day. Talk to one another. That's my advice. -
Dana Reeve, widow of Christopher, dead at 44

Man that was fast! If anyone here still smokes, please consider your family and how fast it can take you away from them. I know from personal experience that it's not easy to quit, but you should at least start the process now before it's too late. ps. Yes I know that Dana Reeve never smoked, but I'd be willing to bet that she grew up in a house with someone who did.
