Peter Friedman

Just began reading my paperback copy yesterday morning. The beginning gives a nice summary of early independent jazz labels, the start of Prestige/New Jazz, and Bob Weinstock's early life. I expect to continue reading this book a few chapters at a time so as to try to listen to some of the recordings mentioned along the way.

I got to see him play one time. He was a sideman with Frank Morgan's Quartet.

Starting the morning off with Prez is a pleasure.

A very good album!

This one mentioned above may be my favorite album by Elvin as a leader. While I very much enjoy many (but not all) of his performances as sideman, The majority of his albums as leader are not to my taste.
