  1. Haydn - String Quartets Op.54 - Buchberger Quartet
  2. I especially enjoy his recordings for the 70's, 80's & 90's . Along with Further Definitions already mentioned a few times, here are some others I like. Still some more:
  3. One more - Joe Romano - he played alto and tenor.
  4. Disc 1 Somewhat disappointing. Art Pepper play ok, though not with much passion. The rhythm section is recessed a bit in the background, and their playing is on the dull side./ I am unlikely to listen to the other 3 discs in this set. There are numerous other Art Pepper recordingsI would prefer to hear.
  5. Mendelssohn - String Quartets Op.13 & Op.44/1 - Guarneri Quartet
  6. After more that a decade, I just read through this entire thread. Was surprised to find quite a few alto players that were not mentioned. Alan Barnes (British), Arne Domnerus (Swedish), Derek Humble (British), Ferdinand Povel (Dutch, plays both alto & tenor), Sadeo Watanabe (Japan), Cory Weeds (Canadian, Plays alto & tenor)
  7. Novak String Quartet No.1, Op.22 - Novak Quartet Novak String Quartet No.2, Op.35 - Janacek Quartet
