  1. for better or worse? b/c I like the sound on this set very much, even preferring the "In Japan" and "Lighthouse" sessions to the individual CD's. A lot mellower.
  2. I just wonder what "rerecorded to digital tape" means. So rather than transferred direct from the masters, the sessions were put onto and mastered from digital tape?
  3. what are the studio and engineer credits for the sessions that make up the Henderson Milestone box? I got it for my birthday, and am wondering b/c the book doesn't list any credits. I know some of the dates some people here don't like all that much but I'm finding the sessions very interesting nonetheless.
  4. FWIW, "The Sermon" RVG is a faithful reproduction of the original LP. "Houseparty" has "Confirmation" as the bonus track.
  5. I think she has a unique approach to the organ blending her interest in jazz and classical music that works for her thing. In an AAJ iview theres a picture of her CD/LP collection, it's massive.
  6. Joe Henderson: The Milestone years Disc 4 (In Pursuit of Blackness, 3/4ths of In Japan) Got the set for my birthday and gave the individual disc of Lighthouse and In Japan to my neighbor for his birthday, he's a huge Joe fan. I actually am preferring the sound of these 2 sessions on the box, listening through Audio Technica ATH-M40FS studio monitor phones.
  7. Joe Hen: Milestone Years disc 2. Got this for my birthday. Already have the singles of "In Japan" and "At the Lighthouse", but the sound on the set is excellent so far
  8. great session, and I love that cover, matches the original nicely. And no my "Workout" RVG doesn't have "retouched cover to come" on it
  9. I don't think it's fair to say Pat has become cliched in his playing. Yes he has a lot of licks, but he played some of the best I ever heard him play last summer in Woodstock with Jack DeJohnette and Larry Grenadier, they were playing standards like "I'll Remember April" and "Dolphin Dance". I also have a live show from the PMG's stint touring as a quartet in January in Tokyo, and Pat's playing is great there, especially on tunes they haven't played in more than 20 years.
  10. I bought it last night and listened to a bit of it. I really need to give it a closer listen, but I was very impressed with Warren Wolf Jr, and Steve Wilson, though his tone is very Kenny Garrett, I didn't hear a slew of Garrett-isms, which I know some people have complained of Wilson being sort of a Garrett-lite.
  11. her singing on "The Authorized Bootleg" is awful, thankfully its only 1 tune and the rest of the album is so great.
  12. are you sure the surliness isn't JOS' spirit being channeled through Joey?
  13. isn't that Neil Young?
  14. easy. Pat Metheny
  15. listening now on Rhapsody, pretty cookin. My guess is recently cuz it sounds like Joey is playing the Diversi, the percussion sounds funny.
  16. got mine yesterday. Disc 1 so far is outstanding, a much more extroverted Evans, and the model of the '61 trio really refined.
  17. mine should be here today. The only other Evans I have is The Complete VV 1961 set, musically how does it compare? I know Bill was playing far more aggressive at this point.
  18. You can hear Hutch's belabored breathing on "I Thought About You" On Joey D's "Organic Vibes" but I think it's b/c he sings a lot when he plays.
  19. that sucks. I used to listen to the album Silver Morning when I was a kid.
  20. mine shipped too, not here yet
  21. I used to watch him on Kung Fu TLC. I was shocked when I heard this
  22. David, I really like your description of "super human strength" referring to the "One Night With Blue Note" recordings. Freddie's solos on "Recordame" and "Moanin" are the very definition of going for broke.
  23. thanks Lon! ordered just now :
  24. ooh a new record with Jack. Automatic buy for me.
