One of my very favorites, I have several of his own recordings. Here is my three most played. Giants Steps (Enja) Jazz Poet (Timeless) Beyond The Bluebird (Timeless) Great pianoplayer, him and Hank Jones are so great, but not very many talk about them today. BTW, we just had an awfull general election today here in Denmark. Vic

Hi All Does any of you know if there is a complete discography of Dizzy's recorded work inclusive Air Shots, bootlegs and other obscure recordings, located somewhere on the internet. I'm espicially interested in recordings with the big band from the forties. Vic

Dragon is a very honest record company, no bootlegs there. As a matter of fact they have a very, very good catouloge. I have severall of them. Check out their Lars Gullin, they are so good. I guees several of you know who he is, but for you who don't try him out. One of the best ever baritoneplayers, composer and arrangers. Besides him there so much great stuff on Dragon. Vic

Chuck I would really like to see that the two Dameronia LP's were reissued on CD('s). I would think, that "To Tadd With Love" and "Look, Stop, Listen" could fit into one CD. Are there any plans regarding this. Vic

You can't go wrong with the Naxos label, they give great value for the money. I have several of them, all the Shostakovich, all the Alban Berg, all Webern and all Shoenberg, there you see guys I like 12tone music. Vic

I voted also for "Somethin' Else", but there are several more that are among my Cannonball favorites. Portrait of Cannonball Them Dirty Blues Know What I Mean (with Bill Evans) At The Lighthouse Sextet In New York His solos on "Milestones" and "Kind Of Blue" The Live Concerts from Paris Cannonball (the double CD on EmArcy) The recording he made with Gil Evans. This is what I have with Tubby H., and I really like them all very much, and strongly recommend, if you can find them, I know some is very hard to find. I have just about a week discovered Lonehill, because I bought a great Art Farmer thing, that I had only over the years heard about, but had never seen or listen to. So, if there are any Art Farmer fans out there, get it. The title is Art Farmer's New York Jazz Sextet, same setup as the Jazztet. The personel is Art Farmer (Flugelhorn), James Moody (Tenor), Tom McIntosh (trombone), Tommy Flanagan (Piano), Richard Davis (Bas), Tootie Heath (Drums). The audio (sound) is very good. It's recorded in 1965 and 1966. Do any of you know on which label that it was originally released on ?. Vic

The "Montmartre Jazz Hus" was more or less my home outside my home for about 10 years in the sixties, I was there 3-4 times a week. It went bankroupt in 1974 because the owner Herluf Kamp Larsen could not cope with the bills anymore. I have heard in that club, Bud Powell, Dexter Gordon. Johnny Griffin, Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins, Don Byas, Archie Shepp, Don Ayler, Cecil Taylor, Tete Monteilou, Sonny Boy Williamson, Ben Webster, Stuff Smith, Kenny Drew (who was the housepianist for years), Art Taylor, Tootie Heath and so many more. It was an incredible club, and it was very small, it housed at the most 75 people. I could go on and on about it. The ten best years of my jazzlife. The house trio was more or less Kenny Drew, NHOP, Art Taylor or "Tootie" Heath, tremendous rhythm section. Vic

I have used the Penguin Guide some years back (I have three editions), but have found it not to bo so complete, because there are many CD's. that is still available that is not mentioned, even some artists. I also do not always agree with Morton and Cooks assesments, but that is a thing about personal taste. But I am really amazed, if they have listen in depth to all the CD's mentioned in the guide, when do they sleep, eat or do anything else. Vic

Sad News (At least for me) Danish Tenorplayer Bent Jaedig have died just recently from cancer 68 years old, after a very short period of illness. He was a great muscian in the bebop tradition and with his own sound, built on Rollins, Mobley and Parker. I've known him for 44 years and he was a great person, warm and so full of stories about jazz. He has been all over the world (several times to the States) and almost everybody in the international jazz community knew him. I know that some members of this board have records with him. It's a great loss for me and for jazz, his funeral was a very moving thing, there were between 400-500 people in the church, and after that there were a funeral party at a local jazzclub, were there were a lot of music played for Bent. Thanks Bent for the music and for the human being you were. RIP Bent In sadness Vic

Thanks to all of you for your kind wishes. You know, who did I hear a week ago. HORACE PARLAN with Jesper Lundgaard (a very, very good danish bassplayer) and Ed Thigpen (who also have been living in Copenhagen since 1972). The two old guys were in very good shape, and the music was great. I have a feeling that I will be back on a regular basis, despite my health problems. you are all a nice bunch, regardless that I on political matters really disagree with some of you. ABB (anybody but Bush) Vic

The Ellington set is okay and the price is right. I have the set myself and love it. The notes are scarce, but the personal and dates are right, and there are some rare tracks on it, there is a lttle gap (10) in the titles from 1939. Very recommend at that price. Vic

For those of you who know who I am. I have just become a grandfather for the first time in my life. He is a beautiful little boy, born by my only beloved daughter. One of the best things, that has happened in my life. I will spoil him and make him love jazz, been my best love outside of women since I was fourteen. Vic

Happy New Year
Victor Christensen replied to Victor Christensen's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Thanks Guys It seems that I'm missed somewhat, so I might return one of these days, BEWARE. Weizen, My brother-in-law lives in Illinois, and we still don't agree on politics. I don't think I'll post on the political board anymore, too much BS, but maybe if I get mad enough. Too much Sh.. going on in my own country to care about GWB and his croonies, even if it affects the whole world. Vic -
Happy New Year To All Of You To Those Who Know Who I am, and also to those who do not know. I don't post anymore, but I'm lurking from time to time. Weizen, how is your wine and beer collection going ?, my favorite beer is Urqueel. And Chris A., I will send you an e-mail soon, I've been thinking of you since KEK died. Best to all Vic

Art Pepper with the Sonny Clark Trio
Victor Christensen replied to Son-of-a-Weizen's topic in Discography
Weizen It's also out on a double CD on Jazz Factory JFCD 22847 (The japanese version is probably in better sound). It is not an essential recording unless you, like me, are a Sonny Clark complemetist. Vic -
I have a few of them, and they are all japanese masters and the sound is good. The man behind it all is Jordi Pujol (also behind Fresh Sound, Blue Moon, Definitive, Jazz Factory), he is a "crook" in the record business, steals from every record company. I'm sorry to have admit, that I've purchased over 200 CD's from Planet over the years. Vic

Try Sonny Rollins version from "A Night At The Village Vanguard", vol.2 on Blue Note, it's very great, just tenor, bass and drums. Vic

It was never recorded (what a shame). I've several tenor "Battles" in my collection, but I once was there (At Jazz Hus Montmartre In Copenhagen), where I listen to a three Tenorbattle with Dexter Gordon, Don Byas, Paul Gonsalves, I wish everybody could have been there, that was truly awesome. They were kicking A.. at each other. I shall never forget it, it lasted until four in the morning. Vic
