  1. Roger Kellaway and also Stan Kenton (1951 - 1955), never paid much attention to either before
  2. All you guys and girls are nuts LOL, we can't have it all, it's an obsession and a malicious disease that we have all been struck with (me included), but when do we have time to listen to it. I am retired and play every day for about 8 hours, and have stuff that I have not listened too for years and I am still collecting. keep swingin' all of you Vic
  3. I have just received a new Sonny Clark reissiue from Amazon.Japan titled "LA Session 1956/57" on the Interplay Records, it is the SC part from an old old LP (Vantage) "The Pianoman" Hampton Hawes/Sonny Clark with Lighthouse All Stars, with an added track with Cannoball where SC is on piano, stay away from it unless you really want to get everything with SC (Like I do), it only contain 22 minutes of music, and the track with Cannonball takes 8 minutes of that, and that is in such a horriblle sound, can hardly hear what they are playing (The Way You Look Tonight). It is a real bummer and cost me a bundle. Vic
  4. Yes, so it is, just go in and check out Jazzmessengers in Barcelona, they have them all, I don't need to get the BN's (have all of them), but I have bought CD's from them that I could not get elsewhere, shame on me. Vic
  5. Nat King Cole, disc 5, I rarely listen to it, biggest Mosaic box so far (18 CD's), almost too much Vic
  6. There was a a real big Fire in My Building tonight, at least 20 Fire vehicles, I was so scared, what to save, My Collection is so precious to me, and if worst had come to worst nothing could have been done, but I am lucky that it did not happen, my pad survided, but I am so shaking. Vic
  7. Hi all Jazz "Brothers" I am trying to get all SC recorded and have about 95% of it, but the last ones are rare and can't find them on the net, so my ? is, do anyone know if the following has ever been reissued in Japan on CD: 1) Various Artist - Jazz Club U.S.A. In Europe (No Label ?) (Buddy De Franco Quartet) 2) Leonard Feather - Swingin' On The Vibories (ABC Paramount ABC 110) 3) Hampton Hawes/Sonny Clark - The Pianoman (Vantage NLP 5004) 4) Various Artist - Eddie Costa Memorial Concert (Colpix CP 450 or SCP 450) All info will be appriciated, and if anyone have them on LP and could burn me a copy would be great, because I can't find them anywhere. Vic
  8. Hi Chris Hope you are doing fine, I can still remember you way, way back, over 50 years ago in the good old days at Diplom Radio on Vesterbrogade in Copenhagen, had a lot of fun times there in the back room where Bent Haandstad had that little jazzrecord department. more power to you Vic
  9. I have the Japanese of "Poppin'" Vic
  10. Listening to him right now as a sideman with Bennie Green as leader, Sonny Clark, Georg Tucker, Alfred Dreares, Joseph Gorgas(Bongos). Jimmy Forrest is really a forcefull player, I like him very much, but I don't have any of the recordings under his own name. Vic
  11. Thanks Guys for the info, both are probably OOP by now, but will look for it. Peter, to buy from the US is too much of hassle to get it from there when as I do live in Denmark, but thanks anyway, drop me a few lines when you feel like it. Vic
  12. I am a huge Sonny Clark Fan and been collecting him for years, both as leader and as a sideman and have now about 90% of all his recordings, but still a few holes. Can anyone tell me if Howard Rumsey Lighthouse All Stars "Music for Lighthousekeeping" from October 1956, recorded for Contemporary, have ever been reissued on CD. I have never been able to find it. I am also on the hunt for Cal Tjader Quintet from June 6, 1955 recorded for Fantasy with Brew Moore, Cal Tjader, Sonny Clark, Gene Wright, Bobby White. Might never have been reissued on CD, have never been able to find it. Any info would be great Vic
  13. I only have two Sun Ra: Sun Song and Jazz In Silhouette, but I like them very much, I have more or less stopped buying records, can't afford it after I have retired, would love to have more Sun Ra, but ! I always wonder how you people can afford it and have so many records(and have the space for it), I have a small collection(about 2000 items) compared to many of you. the best to all of you great jazz people Vic
  14. Arne "Dompan" Domnerus Putte Wickman two great players from Sweden
  15. Well guys and girls To hear Stuff Smith live and also Svend Asmussen(who is still playing, he 91) is something ELSE, they swing their A.. of. Vic
  16. Thanks for the info, glad I have them all.
  17. Bill Barron (Kennys older brother) was such a nice person, got to know him well when he had a 3 week gig at "Jazzhus Montmartre" with Teddy Curson and Dick Berk, can't remember the name of the bassplayer.
  18. I second most of the opinions, my own collection spans from Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Early Armstrong, all of Ellington and up to Andrew Hill, Cecil Taylor, Vienna Art Orchestra and everything in between, so there is a variety, so I can always find something to listen to, depending on my mood. Here is a little funny one from the new book about "Jazzhus Montmartre": Ben Webster was playing one night, and Richard Boone sat in, and Ben was pissed off about Boone's playing, so in the middle of a tune, he turned(hand over mouth) and said very loudly "Boone, you have my telephone number. Boone said Yes of course I have it, then Ben said FORGET IT" Vic
  19. Is it just me or what, I have come to point where most of my BN recordings from that period just bores me, I have come to that conclusion after listening for a while to it, and right now am I listening to Hank Mobley "No Room For Squares", it says me nothing anymore. Alfred Lion had a concept at that time that is so boring after a while. I have a lot of it, but hardly listen to it anymore (I have almost complete BN recordings from 1945 to 1968). Give me an opinion. BTW Hope That the Danish Book About "Jazzhus Montmartre" will come out in English Some Day, it's great, but I am biased, I was there and have known so many of the persons mentioned in the book. you are all great guys and girls Victor
  20. Yes Bud is The man, but his playing could be very erratic, I have many of his records, I have heard him live many times, he had a two month gig in 1962 at "Jazzhus Montmartre" here in Copenhagen, I was there 3-4 times a week, on most nights nothing "happened", but then on some nights (too few) I have never heard anything like it, was Bud at his best, a true genius. Vic
  21. Hi Guys I like also like The Dream Band and have vol. 3-6, but what are the titles for vol. 1-2, hard to find(impossible) in little Denmark, so must search on the net, even if I have found a little netstore (Imusic) here in Denmark that from which I have got stuff that I have searched for years, but no TG vol. 1-2. Vic
  22. Hi BeBop, my very old friend from way back on the BN board, you have done so much for me espeially with Wardell Gray, hope you come my way one day. your friend Vic
  23. There is a 4 CD Proper Box set with Charlie Ventura "Bop For The People", very good, I have it. Vic
  24. Hi, will get back with the information about the book, don't have it right now, have to do a little research first, but I know the two guys who wrote it. Vic
  25. Sounds very interesting! Got any more detailed info? (Website, buying sources, ISBN, etc.) I guess if I can work my way through 30-odd years of Orkester Journalen and 25 years of Estrad as well as through "Gata Regerings 74" and "Göteborgsjazz" I should be able to cope sufficiently with Danish too. Mange tak! As for your Buddy Stewart list, I think you've got the ground covered pretty well with what's around. Will check and compare with what else might be buried among airshot recordings, though.
