  1. I don't understand the part about "but that's usually not a partial offer." What do you mean by that?
  2. I think it is pertinent that the black blues artists involved at the time reportedly viewed some of the white blues musicians as legitimate. From everything I have read, Muddy Waters truly respected Butterfield and Bloomfield as blues musicians, worthy of sharing the bandstand with him in South side Chicago blues clubs. However, I was not there and did not know any of the people involved.
  3. Sorry I am late! Happy Birthday, Al!
  4. I will buy it, if Fer Urbina decides against it due to the shipping cost.
  5. I remember those 1970s days that he describes. I wanted to get into Ellington in a big way, and made lists of the LPs I really wanted to get, from my reading. I also wrote a letter to a jazz DJ at a public station who played a lot of Ellington, and he sent me a list of recommended Ellington LPs. Then I couldn't find most of them. They just were not available at any store within any reasonable driving distance. I remember that the return letter from the DJ arrived in my mailbox within two weeks after I had mailed out my letter, and I felt so fortunate that I had heard from him so quickly. It was a different time. I also recall that in the 1970s, it was common that when I would get to know another jazz fan, and would look at their album collection for the first time, that I would be amazed by certain albums that they had been able to find. Not that they had good taste in music and thus had selected a particular album--what I mean is that they had been able to locate a copy of an album that we had all heard of but had never been able to see a real copy of.
  6. I have always loved this recording and have thought it was Winter's best recorded moment.
  7. I have sent my Paypal payment. Thanks for your patience.
  8. I would like a disc please, Big Al! I am looking forward to it.
  9. She looks like she is having a psychotic episode, to me.
  10. How would I do that? I just had a new hard drive and motherboard installed in my computer, so I am uncertain about the procedure at this point.
  11. I can't send a PM because there is no longer any space for the title, nowhere to type in the title. If I try to send a PM, I get an error message that my title is too short. But I cannot figure out how to type in any title at all.
  12. PM sent on the Art Blakey with Billy Harper. Well, I want to send a PM, but am unable to send any out. I am not sure how to proceed here. I want to buy this Art Blakey CD from you.
  13. and TMG is Big Jailhouse Jones.
  14. I think that Disc One, Track 8 is from Billy Hart's "Enchance" album, on A&M Horizon, 1977. The track is the second song on Side 2 of the vinyl album, entitled "Pharaoh" by Don Pullen. The musicians are: Hannibal Marvin Peterson-trumpet; Oliver Lake-alto saxophone, Dewey Redman-tenor saxophone, Don Pullen-piano, Dave Holland-bass, Billy Hart-drums. This album was a real favorite of mine in my first burst of jazz enthusiasm, and was played constantly when it was first released, in the college apartment where I lived with two other jazz fanatics.
  15. I listened to this BFT for the first time last night and got a lot of enjoyment out of it, except..... WHAT IS that composition on Disc One, Track 8? I have it in my collection. I have played it hundreds of times. I may have a version of the composition played by different musicians, but I know it well. But I can't remember the name of the composition, who composed it or who played on it, in the version in my collection. I am going slowly mad, trying to remember the name of this song!
  16. There was a favorable review of the iHome system shown in the link, in Jazz Times. I went to an Apple store and listened to it, and then bought it. We like it a lot at home. It has much better sound than the other iPod home docking stations we had tried. In fact, it is the first docking station I have heard that is at all satisfactory, in terms of sound. Now it is not nearly as good as my big time component stereo system, but as iPod docking stations go, it has the best sound I have heard.
  17. "Screamin' Fingers Dupree"--a distant relative of Champion Jack.
  18. When I send PMs to certain members, there is a little box in the upper right hand corner with their name which reads BLOCK and some language that indicates that the message cannot go through. If I click on BLOCK it switches to UNBLOCK. I am still not sure that the PMs are going through. What is this BLOCK and UNBLOCK stuff all about?
  19. My personal preferences: I think that "Tin Can Alley" is the strongest of these albums, with "Special Edition" and "Inflation Blues" both close behind. I enjoy "Album Album" a little less than those three. I saw this group with Chico Freeman, John Purcell and Peter Warren joining Jack, in Ann Arbor, Michigan in January, 1981. It was a very energetic, rousing performance.
  20. Allen, You should call and give an interview. Then Professor Veal could write in his book,"Despite the legendary status of this quintet, there are those who found their live performances to be completely forgettable."
  21. I have a 1962 David Beatty system, with tube amps. The IPod does not sound nearly as good.
  22. Another adult drinking game would be to take a drink whenever an adult begins a sentence with "Honestly", "Candidly", or "To be honest about it", or some slight variation.
  23. More like three minutes.
