Nice show. 2 long involved pieces. 11 people attended - the avant garde is still a tough sell out here in the provinces. The musicians couldn't have been more gracious. Did Ingrid play both tenor and soprano? I sure wish more would be listening but as they say it is what it is I'm also wondering if Rainey at times ever ended up in one of his super off kilter grooves? I love it when he gets to that place. One of the reasons is that when it happens it happens organically without any roadmap Played both tenor & soprano. Rainey had a bag full of drum sticks that at one point he smacked from drum to drum. Also rather amazing cymbal work. I loved it. Even my wife said "that was pretty good".

I've seen The Bad Plus twice in the last year (Village Vanguard & The Outpost in Albuquerque). They were great (IMHO) both times. Looking forward to the trio of Tootie, Ethan & Ben Street in Albuquerque in July.

Jeez - I like that Tootie CD.

Christoph Erb is a new name to me. Anybody heard him? Lots of good people on his releases. Erb is Swiss, but spends a lot of time in Chicago. His Veto releases have always struck me as being of the "let's get some guys in studio for a few hours and just roll the tape" type of free improv w/o much forethought as to what they were going to do. They're sort of the modern free improv version of '50s blowing sessions albums -- not bad, but certainly no one's best work. Of the Veto releases I've heard the best one was Erb's album w/ Keefe with two bass clarinets and two cellos -- name of it completely escapes me at the moment.Scott Thanks for that input.

"Glass houses" syndrome here. Some of you need to "chillax" as my granddaughter would say. BTW, I'm a big fan. Seeing Art in person was always great, & FWIW I believe that Laurie had plenty to do with keeping him functioning.
