  1. His book Son Of The Morning Star is one of the best books on Custer.
  2. When was that, JL? Maybe by that time he'd learned a lesson. I learned a fairly big one just last week, at age 70, so there's always hope. Near the end of his career, before he developed cancer & moved back to the midwest. He'd recovered from a stroke & could still play very well. I remember a discussion I had with him about Juan Tizol & Duke Ellington.
  3. William Faulkner once signed a book for Albert Einstein - From Bill, To Al Destroyed any collector value it might have had. BTW, slightly off-topic - The Prestidigitator.
  4. I'm not an insider like Larry, Chuck & Allen - BUT I spent many nights listening to Frank Morgan at The Adobe Bar at The Taos Inn when he was living in Taos. No cover charge, average local rhythm section, probably shitty pay, nice margaritas. He always played well, never berated the band & was warm to the audience. Memorable times for me. I hope he didn't scam any old ladies in Taos. The town seemed to love & respect him.
  5. Jo Nesbo: Snowman
  6. Get it IMO.
  7. Now I'm convinced - seriously!!
  8. Musique Du Bois
  9. Carlos Fuentes: The Death Of Artemio Cruz

    Ran Blake

I like the one with Dominique Eade. The Ran / Jeanne Lee is an all time favorite.
  11. Yeah, what's up with that? Also, the last episode of Mad Men was, like, to die for. It appears to be a moronic response by Dish to some sort of litigation regarding digital video recorders, although they claim it's because of low ratings (which sounds like b.s. to me). A campaign has been started to try to reverse the decision.
  12. I have it & like it a lot.
  13. Dish is dropping AMC. Means I'll have to download remaining episodes of The Killing & Mad Men.
  14. I suppose I'll have to get this (for the DVD if nothing else), but I believe I have some of it. Too confusing.
  15. It might not be just you - BUT I disagree.
  16. Gillian Welch / Dave Rawlings
  17. Edith Pearlman: Binocular Vision
  18. Butthole Surfers
  19. Not a pronunciation issue, but I'm driven crazy by people who say nauseous when they mean nauseated.
  20. The Killing has really upped the intensity. I believe / hope the solution is coming soon.
  21. Michael McGarrity: Hard Country
  22. Errol Garner: Concert By The Sea
