  1. Looking forward to this Percy France trio CD from Allen Home Cookin' & the Freddie Roach CD with Percy are also on the way to me from Dusty Groove. This thread is an example of what makes this board so great.
  2. Eighty-eights definitely brings out some excellent CDs. Some eventually make it to domestic U.S. issue, but I usually can't wait. Expensive, but worth it (IMHO). http://www.eighty-eights.com
  3. The Gordon is great. I have all of the Chambers elsewhere, so didn't buy it. Mainly cool stuff. I'm not interested in the Liebman / Beirach. Just me, I guess.
  4. If you like South (I do), you'll like Welcome To Life (Binney, Potter, Taborn, Rogers, Colley, Blade) on Mythology. http://www.mythologyrecords.com

    Manny Albam

You might as well get Vol. 1 also.
  6. Barry Altschul ? Eddie Daniels
  7. I liked Mystic River because of one major difference. Sean Penn can act. Obviously if you don't like the movie you don't like it (& I do agree about Sean Penn). But - Hillary Swank can't act????, Morgan Freeman can't act????
  8. Greg Cohen Joey Baron Jenny Scheinman Uri Caine ? Dave Douglas
  9. I like that Betty Wright CD & the Patty Waters too.

    Anthony Braxton

I have & like both, but that's just me.
  11. I got it too, Sal. Agree with your evaluation.
  12. Springtime in the Rockies (I hope). We've got robins, bluebirds, etc..
  13. I've been waiting for years for that Pepper Adams PJ. Is there any "extra" material??
  14. Me too. Powerful stuff. Off topic, but Hotel Rwanda was excellent too.
  15. That's right. You never know what you're going to get. I heard Moody in person recently & (to be charitable) he wasn't very good. When I saw him at the Detroit Jazz Festival two years ago, he sounded very good to me. It was a concert setting. Quartet of Moody, David Williams on bass, Carrington on drums & piano (actually can't remember who). Moody massacred Cherokee on flute, & played adequately on tenor, alto & a bit of soprano. Told jokes that were lame 30+ years ago & wasn't much better on vocals on Moody's Mood For Love & Bennie's (sic) From Heaven. Maybe it was the altitude. Other half of the concert was Ahmad Jamal (he's 75), with James Cammack & Idris Muhammad. They were "tight", although nothing new took place.

  17. Welcome Matt. (Bad pun, but sincere)
  18. Well, I'm now inspired to pull out The Meters (Josie 4010), reissued as Sundazed 6146. Thanks for the reminder.
  19. http://www.venusrecord.com I'm waiting for it to come in at Cadence too. I just looked at the Venus website & the track listing is in Japanese which I can't read.
  20. Help! Can't find the new Kenny Barron/Venus CD at Cadence. Did find the Harold Mabern there and wiould love to order both. Thanks, Marla The one problem at Cadence is that it sometimes takes a while for the new issues to come in. Send an e-mail to Slim at Cadence to let her know which ones you want, & she'll let you know when they arrive.
  21. I'm surprised to hear that. I bought No Problem from Cadence & it's still in their center section list. Years ago I used to buy the mini-LPs, but at $19 apiece (I'm a subscriber - $1/CD discount) I'm sticking with the jewel cases now. It's true that Cadence doesn't carry the mini-LPs.
  22. Oops - I just quoted myself. Well this does keep coming up.
  23. Lon is correct. But - I don't know what shipping to Europe would do to that best price situation. In the U.S. no one else is even close.
  24. retired M.D. (gastroenterologist).
  25. Venus - but I voted for Blue Note.
