  4. Hello everybody, I recently received a recording of the late guitarist Ronnie Singer. Jimmy Gourley had it on a cassette. Jimmy says that Ronnie Singer died very young (24 years old). It's a live recording, probably in New York at the beginning of the 50s. One can hear Ronnie Singer with a nice band (the 4/4 with the trumpet player are just fabulous) playing like Jimmy Raney, even better ! My question : Do you know/have recordings (private tapes/broadcastings) of Ronnie Singer ? Thanks Steven Paris, France
  5. Hello all, Are there recordings of Charlie Christian with a non-amplified guitar ? Thanks Steven
  6. The best Django Reinhardt compilation on the market is probably this one : Rétrospective Django Reinhardt 1934-1953 3CD set. Saga Jazz - Universal France. The remastering is fantastic, the liners (in French and English) are great (by Alain Antonietto), and the presentation is very nice (great rare photos). I highly recommend this box for a first approach of Django's music.
  7. © Michel Gaudry This photo was taken at the club "Chez Nancy Holloway" (she was the owner) in Paris probably late 1960. The sidemen are Elek Bacsik (guitar), Henri Renaud (piano) and Michel Gaudry (double bass). But who is the singer ?

  11. Wow, Nathan didn't tell me that this album had to be reissued when he came in Paris in September ! That's a really great album. Can't wait to have this new issue (especially if the sound is as good as you say brownie)
  12. Joyeux anniversaire Guy ! A un de ces jours... Steven
  13. RIP Claude. A great clarinet player, as you can see on this video with Claude Bolling at the Tabou in July 1962. Click here for the video !
  14. I received mine this morning, thanks Tom !
  15. The round table was really interesting. And this morning there was a masterclass with all the musicians : I could play piano with these giants... I was very impressed and a bit ill at ease... The French sax player Jean-Louis Chautemps was in the audience... Nathan told anecdotes with Monk, the Nicholas Brothers, etc very interesting ! Tonight, concert at the Unesco in Paris.
  16. The bass player is my friend Michel Gaudry...
  17. Hi Jim, Of course, I know this video filmed by the RTBF (Belgium) in April (or May) 1964 in the appartement of Gainsbourg's parents. If I remember well, they did video clips of seven songs of Gainsbourg and we can see Bacsik on two of them (on the others, the music is from the LP "Gainsbourg Confidentiel" of 1963, and Gainsbourg do figuration on the screen...)
  18. UP ! Of course BM, I'll let you know how I enjoyed them
  19. I agree completely with you Patricia, War Photographer IS a must-see.
  20. Thanks for your message ! Nathan is a friend of mine and I'll be the driver for the band, it will let me the time to discuss a little with these guys ! I'll also participate to the roundtable...
